Does anyone Twitter?
(I don't)
Yup. Simple_Bliss (https://twitter.com/Simple_Bliss)
No. I find the idea of what people are doing minute-by-minute..... tedious.
::)
Okay, so I'm becoming that crotchety old guy waving a rake at kids walking across his lawn....
"...git on w'yer, ya varmits..."
I'm only interested in the really big news: are you ill? Well? Pregnant? a [new] [gran-]Parent? Engaged? Dead? Things like that.
What you had for dinner last night, or how much you paid for that can of underarm cream? I don't really want to know... Unless dinner was unusually fantastic... then? Maybe--if you've access to the recipe.
To me? The majority of twittering is the human equivalent of throwing poo at people peeking in through your bars...
Well, aside from the fact that I agree with you on most counts, my dear Sibling Bob, I must point out that it is not quite the equivalent of throwing poo. I believe one must subscribe to another's Twittering broadcasts. In other words, you must give permission to have someone's poo thrown at you.
I won't knock it entirely though- I'm sure it's fascinating to younger people who are still under the impression that their every move is fascinating. It's just how they pass notes these days, is all.
I don't do FacePage or Mybook or SpaceWhatever, either. I did it for a while, but now that I'm an old Grizabella I have painstakingly adjusted my life so that it moves more slowly than is usually entertaining for others.
There's a tv ad with a teen girl chastising her mother for spamming her facebook account with embarrassing messages; mom smiles evilly up from her (phone? laptop?).
Then the teen boy whines to dad that he doesn't have to tweet *everything* he does. Dad, lounging on the porch with his (phone? laptop?) is texting away and smilingly intones, "I AM SITTING ON THE PORCH".
Now that I have officially entered ye olde fogette geezerhood, I am relieved to feel no pressure to subscribe to Twitter. ;)
The last thing I bloidy need is more text messages. I used to wonder why "older folks" (parents, for example; grandma managed the internet quite nicely ;)) didn't seem to be able to pick up on new technology quickly; I'm starting to suspect that it's largely a case of *can't*be*arsed*.
Suspect that I'm destined for doddering Ludditehood sooner rather than later, although I admit that in the last few months I've acquired both a cell phone (Samsung model that's at least 2 years old in N. America and I suspect was launched sometime last century in Korea) and an MP3 player ($15 usb job). Haven't had either in years.

I take it you're not a fan of the What Are You ......? part of the forum. ;)
I use it to follow news like we saw in Iran, Burma, and the Bombay bombings. Also, to follow Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, and others. Because they're hilarious.
And I refuse to abandon my facebook page until something else more interesting appears. I use it to keep in touch with friends scattered across the globe and family around the country.
And I love technology too much. Love my phone and I got a new mp3 player recently. Which I think I'm in love with. I'm not obsessive to the point that I have to have the newest thing, but I do love getting the newest stuff when I decide to get something.
I subscribed to twitter... so no point in it and deleted my account :D
Facebook on the other hand, i need so my dad on the other side of the world can check out real time the cutest moves of my daughter :)
I am for being selective about technology and use the one you choose wisely
Ah! Facebook. I am currently carrying out a survey of who has been forced onto Facebook by the unreasonable demands of other people.
Initially, a reluctant Facebooker.
I will never Twitter.
Facebook has it's uses, twitter OTOH...
Unless you can group-twitter..... Last Tweet game anyone? ;D
For group stuff better use google wave (http://wave.google.com) (although that is more productivity oriented).

Now yer'talkin'..... :)
I find I do care, a bit, what my fellow sibs are doing at the mundane level.
But only a bit.
*holds up finger and thumb about 3mm apart*
I can imagine a Twitter game: you post something you actually did/are-doing. The more mundane, the better. But, the catch is, it has to be different from at a minimum, the last three such posts. Which means things like, "I just breathed in and out" and "I just typed in a twitter" would be quickly used up...
:)
The clever bit, I suppose, would be to twitter about drinking coffee, while including something that makes it unique from the previous coffee-tweet, all within 150 characters.
And, since we are of a higher-order, we can arbitrarily declare that real words, at least, must be used? Making it an exercise in originality and brevity?
::)
Food for thought.
And a real challenge to the likes of me..... I'd need the equivalent of verbal bananas.... or perhaps some verbal cheese.
:P
Verbal Imodium?

More interesting applications - might be fascinating to have an author release a work by tweet. Could actually work for poetry, maybe not for an epic novel.
I have a strong suspicion that there are several #whateveryoucall_twitteraccounts dedicated to sending verses of the Bible.

Drifting a little to new media in general, I'm more interested in the concept (if not the current execution) of things like Wherigo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wherigo) and anticipate seeing the rise of MMARRPGs (massive multiplayer augmented reality role playing games) in the next 5 years if they do not currently exist. Imagine being able to look through your device's camera and see/interact with other players in the real world.
(hmmm... the interwebz indicated I came pretty close to coining that one; one fictional reference. Surprising; it seems dead obvious and is surely under development somewhere).
Twitter - for those that find haiku too long and tedious
