Title: Children are insane...it runs in the family, obviously.
Post by: Sibling Chatty on March 06, 2009, 04:33:12 AM
A friend gave me a roll of un'waxed' butcher paper that he had on hand. (They'd shipped the wrong kind, replaced it and didn't want the un- back.)

I got it to the GreatNieceAndNephews, along with a ton of colors, pencils, etc.

They IMMEDIATELY cut long strips and made the two youngest into mummies, complete with colored on 'tattering' on their bandages.

The chirrens is peculiar. Obviously related to me...

Kids. If you give them their head, they seldom do with it what *you* would've done with it....

...what makes'em interesting.   And original.

;D

Absolutely charming. I'm glad they have an interesting Auntie like Chatty to encourage their madness.

We'd have then progressed to seeing if we could really scramble and remove someones brains via the nostril/nose/nasal cavity through a opening in the ethmoid! Turn the head left and let drain, then right a while, then tip the whole table back a time, then up and forward. Actually that is how it was done back in the day.

One of my favorite professors favorite show and tell items was his actual and authentic brain swizzler from Egypt-- sort of like a large crochet hook--- which come to think of it is in fact what the darn thing is. Yes it is a real one-

Hooray for encouraging the kids Chatty!

But that's a hook for removing a mummified brain (just to place it in a jar next to the heart...) :o ;D

I was an early reader and I read pretty much everything in the bookshelf's I could reach, but my favourites was anything historic and science stuff. I still remember the face my mother made when I as a 8-9 yr old asked her if doctors still did trephinations the way they did it the around the 16th century?

I had found one of my dad's (illustrated) military history books... ;D

And no, I did not try to preform one or anyone or anything -I already knew Barbie's head was full of air and the Teddybear's full of synthetic fluff -I had helped stuff him. ;D

Seriously the issue of brains is a great one for children! Teach them to use theirs you know. Play is one of the greatest things a child can do to learn and grow properly.

Ye gots to gets the brains out before ye mummifies the body-- they didn't realize what the brain was in the beginning- it were just mush up stairs to them or maybe a place where the demons that cause headaches live.
Now it was the heart that was important- it was removed intact and carefully mummified and sealed into its own vessil-- they heart was weighed vs a feather and if the heart was lighter(no hate, anxiety, negative, ill, etc) than a feather your trip through the underworld was much more pleasant. The heart was the place of emotions, soul, spirit all that good stuff. This is where the pharase 'lighter than a feather' when talking about love and emotions probably originated.
We have a very nice- real- trephinated female skull from Central America in our 'collection'-- and she has some signs of healing bone meaning she lived for a while after they did it.

Play! Toys! Grrr. Adult suckers. My grandson's 1st bday this month - son says too many toys already. What he (baby) really likes is the pans in the kitchen cupboard and he isn't allowed them as the floor is a stone floor. Sad or what?

BAN toys!

Today I stood in line behind a cart with a baby boy around one year old, who was joyfully playing with a toothpaste container. I don't even think he cared if it had anything in it. It had corners! It tasted like cardboard! And best of all, whenever he dropped it, Mommy came back!!!! He was the happiest kid in the world.

Give a kid a box!

I remember sliding down grassy hills using waxed card box boxes .
We used to make bows and arrows , we had a couple of visits from cops , who impressed upon us that we had weapons in our hands , one of the parents or neighbors must of called .

No one lost an eye and I think we were back to Kick The Can or something like that soon enough , much to the relief of the neighborhood .
