Title: End of Daze
Post by: Aphos on May 26, 2008, 09:00:25 PM
On Topix, on a thread entitled, "The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster / Faith with a side of Parmesan", there is a poster calling himself "As God intended" that has announced several times  that God has informed him that Wednesday will be the last day of Earth.  So...You have been warned!!!

I don't like to be picky, but is that earth that's going, or merely homo sapiens ? I couldn't be bothered to read it in depth.

He may be muddling things up with the TV show tonight about Life on Earth After Humans Go.

Anyway, I think it's more likely to be the 31st not the 28th. Though it may begin to disintegrate on 28th and take 3 days. Depends on how long it took to create it in the first place.

Good, I have to get up early on Thursday to catch a flight & will be away from home for a few days.  Better to have it happen Wednesday.

EDIT:  Read the posts pointed to by the link and I'm not sure the world is going to end...  rather, it appears that God is just going to look away for the day and one should have a free pass to sin. :devil2:

I spent a week in Manchester once.  The end of the World can start to seem surprisingly attractive.

There sure are some 'unique' people in topix land.  Sheesh, I can't get my best dress out of the cleaners on time.  Thanks for the warning so I can go to plan B on my End of Daze dress.

Half-life of creation is 3 days.  Guess that is about right for the end.
I may have time to get my dress from the cleaners after all.

Eh well... looks like I might as well set up the Pseudo-Bar for Water Nymph. Drinks will be on the house.

Whose Wednesday is it, anyway?

Rain is good. Unless this is another one of those ark situations. Drat. I suppose we should have gotten the Toadfish yacht ready by now, but we were too busy partying. Repent! No, too late for that. Party some more!

We still have time for the half hour argument as to whether we should have a Toadfish Yacht or a Toadfish Ark.

What with Beagle, Goat, and Pachy, I vote for the Ark. does a yacht have a poop deck?

Poop deck?  I thought you sorta used the railing-like.   What?  Thas' not what she meant?

Why call it a poop deck, then?   At least it outa have a kitty litter box or sumpin'

Why not an Ark, then....would be simpler.   But, I'm NOT going to clean below deck.  Unless the animals are litter-trained, that is.

I think we can just use the pontoon.  It's Wednesday here, and I'm picking my grandson up from school as soon as he finishes finals today.

You would think so, but I rather suspect that this unfortunate person is in real need of professional help.  Doubt that he will seek it, however.  The first step on the way to healing that sort of thing is to be able to admit to less than personal perfection, I saw little of that with this bloke.

Can they really only round up 144,000 celibate Christians in over two millenia?

2  Not all Catholic priests have been following the rules.

Maybe we have it wrong. We don't die. The world ends.

And since we only have subjective perception, everyone else thinks the world still exists.

Of course, it could be that, as Usual, the world ended right On Time.

That would be EVERY Wednesday, at precisely 3:00 PM Mountain Time.  (Why Mountain Time?  Because of Judge Wampner, who comes on in the mornings, on God's cable channel.  God does not like to miss Judge Wampner.)

Of course, a New-York Second later, the world is RE-Created exactly as it Was Before-- with everyone's memories intact, except without the destruction-bits.  Those get left out.  God is merciful, after all.

Now, there are some Heretics, who maintain that the world is re-created Last Tuesday.   These are known as Last Tuesdayinians.  But, as Everyone Knows, these people are just plain Nuts.   For, it's a well known fact that God also likes My Name Is Earl (which comes on on Tuesday---duuh)

Ok it is now Friday here in the USA and allowing for the fact that the entire earth isn't always on the same day anyway (they never seem to get that fact in their day of doom predictions) Wednesday had most definately passed
so one of two things has happened

1: the person is a nutter
2: the rapture occured and we are all actually in either heaven or hell

as I don't see Ghandi anywhere (speak to various people and as he is non-christian he would be in hell-speak to others and an exception would have been made and he would be in heaven) so how would we know anyway, plus I haven't had to show anyone a gate pass either, so I have no way of knowing where I am so I'll have another beer thank you--
also no sightings of  virgins en mass

Title: Re: End of Daze
Post by: Aphos on May 30, 2008, 05:14:13 PM
I suppose it is possible that the Rapture has come and the only person that passed muster was a nun in Lithuania.  All the rest of us have been Left Behind.

(Sorry...any mention of those horrid books does that to me.)

Well, who can blame you?

They say "in heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here", so if A'babe is having a beer and we're still reading her posts, we must not be in heaven with the Lithuanian nun and the carping virgins. Hope they're having fun.

He was man enough to show up afterwards.  That gets points from me.
Many would have left and never come back out of shame.

The thing I wanted to tell him, but never got the energy to...that Bible which he claims to believe SAYS that 'no man knoweth the time' of the end, and that those that prophesy it are...not speaking from divine inspiration. (Liberal paraphrase, it's been mumblesomething years since I've read the exact translation from the earliest source.)

Yes, it's possible that he indeed had an' inspired' look forward, but to a God who says that a day shall be as a thousand years and a thousand years shall be as a day...you don't pin that Deity of Choice down to YOUR timetable. (Especially on a Wednesday, when the Southern Baptists are already heavily invested in the Wednesday night supper preparations so that they can have the kids groups meetings, prayer meetin' and choir practice without having folks starve.)

Besides, you get more positive results with positive statements. Prophecies of doom, gloom and destruction just bring derision. Within 100 miles of where I went to college in the early 70's, there were THREE different groups sitting on "mountaintops" waiting for the end. One group was sure the end was coming because the Assembly of God Church Camps started allowing 'mixed bathing' (boys and girls swimming in the SAME LAKE!!) in 1972. Their leader had a small heart attack when they allowed mixed bathing in swimming pools 2 years later. (Just to prove how progressive the Baptists were,my Baptist college allowed co-ed pool use as early as 1971!!)

These folks have something they want to say. They don't know how to say it without the 'preachiness' (and the superioristic attitude). That he had the guts to come back does speak well of his ability to THINK about the effects his words have.

That FNKS does upset them doesn't it??

And they do so hate it when you correct their homebrewed pseudo-theology.

I got called an uppity woman a couple years ago...to which I replied "Damn Skippy I am, Bubba, and do NOT forget it." Right up until he went to pastor a church in another town, that guy avoided me. I don't know why--I didn't correct him in front of his congregation, just in front of a Methodist minister, a Baptist minister and a Catholic deacon, one of whom pulled out a Bible and read that I was right about the quote and he had it wrong...in 4 parallel versions.

The one I use, in my most folksy Texas manner is "Honey, God done got the job of God. He thinks He's doin' it real good, too, so if'n I'ze you?? I wouldn't be tryin' to change the meanin' of His words, or to do HIS job, or to take over and Rule His World...much less messin' with people that may not even believe in what you do." I usually follow that with a "So set yer mangy ass down before I sit you down with mah chainsaw...'cause The Book sez that he's a Jealous God, and your takin' over for Him might have blow-back, and I DO NOT wanna be in the pathway."

They're usually so stunned they don't respond at all...

If she was beamed up with the 144000 qualifying men she's probably completed two fast laps of infinity by now.
