LOL  I've had my first Happy Valentines "message" in about 45 years !!!  and to think last year I was being rude about the event.

.....still I am having to give myself the flowers, cards, chocs, meal and stare lovingly into my own eyes in the mirror.......

On balance I still think this event is rubbish

What we really need is a festival to celebrate love's many torments. Bring on Unvalentine's Day
(http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/feb/11/charliebrooker.relationships)

Actually, what I want is a special day for SINGLES when everyone else in the world gives them the GOOD attentions lovers have and all the MATERIAL presents they miss out on and have to buy for themselves or go without. Oh and while I am at it, how about a special day for Refugees, assylum seekers, starvation victims, and .............. Grrrr!

Why the hell do lovers need a special day?

:::::<<<grumpy old Toadfish>>>::::::

with apologies to Opsa who is only trying to cheer us all up - please don't delete this - it's given me immense pleasure being so sour

=========================

EDIT - AND I've just bought myself a sex toy !  Happy Valentines !!

i just had a valentines message... unfortunately it is from a 16 year old girl so it is probably not serious...

.. and regretably even if it is the only appropriate response would be "I'm old enough to be your father!"

... which regretably i am

so i am now going to sit in the corner and cry for a bit  :'(

Happy Valentines ye fishies!

I luves ye all.

Oh Griffin--  :1stprize:   I personally kiss my mirror everytime I buy a new lipstick shade to remind myself of how fabulous I truly am.

Dear Goat-- I am most assuredly not a 16 year old- but I am a girl- you are not too old to be my valentine-- so I do luv ya honey! no tears today.
Oh if the young lady in question is anything like me when I was her age- she was being completely serious, I have always had a thing for 'mature men' so kudos to you for not taking the jail-bait.

gee shucks!

ps.... 'mature' has the correct implications

pps.. technically she would not be 'jail bait' so my motivations are slightly better than not wanting a stint in prison!!!!

ppps... does anyone know any pretty girls nearer to the 30 mark?

pppps.... please?

;)

Quote from: Griffin NoName on February 14, 2008, 04:47:38 PMActually, what I want is a special day for SINGLES when everyone else in the world gives them the GOOD attentions lovers have and all the MATERIAL presents they miss out on and have to buy for themselves or go without.

It's not quite the same thing, but how about Black Day?
QuoteBlack Day (April 14) is an informal tradition for single people (a.k.a. Unit Solo, Korean: 솔로부대) to get together and eat noodles with black bean sauce in South Korea, sometimes a white sauce is mixed because those celebrating the Black Day didn't experience the White Day.

The idea is that those who didn't give or receive gifts on Valentine's Day or White Day can get together and eat Jjajangmyeon (짜장면), Korean noodles with black and white bean sauce (hence the name), to commiserate their singledom.

Y'know, if we was still involved with the noodle-based internet meme, it would be fun to hand/mail out Chapagetti (http://noodleson.com/review/2005/09/05/chajang-myun/) to singles for Black Day. ;D

I'm beginning to recover from my doom. I just got invited out for a meal tonight, if we didn't both have stuff tomorrow preventing it. Where are the frivolities of yesteryear?

Happy VD to you all. Two more hours left here of it.

Poor Goat. How about a platonic Valentine's Day message from an 18-year old?
"Dear Goat-
You are my favorite ruminant friend. We <3 you!

Our Dear goat expressed a desire to meet attractive 30ish ladies
well as I understand it

Brittney is currently unattached (in many ways)
Paris is between Greek oil boys and would probably love a nice goat to replace her herd of mini-dogs.
Lyndsey L. is not in rehab and has dumped the 'skater boy'.
Kirsten Dunst is in rehab- but should be out soon
Alas--- Jessica S. is dating some football guy (or did Texas run her off yet?)-potential to pickup a broken heart there!

see it all depends on how you look at things-- is the glass half empty or half full?

...and if it helps to know, Mr. Ops barely has a romantic bone in his body. I had to go and get some flowers for the table last night. I usually do the flower-buying.

They were just little white mini-carnations, quite inexpensive, but simple and cheery and with a hint of clove fragrance.

After nearly twenty years of marriage, I know it'll be up to me to do the romantic stuff. That's just how it is.

Thank goodness for all the romantic pirates here, showering us with sweet thoughts!  :thankyou:

I do like carnations

have you ever taken them and split the stem  and then put them in colored water(plain old food color)? they draw up the water and they turn color for you via capillary action. Of course it works best with white ones. must split the stem what seems like a horrible bit, split them at least half way-long ways not cut the stem off, but it is really a nice lovely thing to play with. Oh can also take one side of the stem and put in one color and the other in another and have dual colors. (I love Bill Nye the science guy- or whom ever I learned this from originally).

BTW- 20 years of marriage is fantastic-- congratulations.

Nice idea! I put a few on the Opsalette's room. We have some neon food color. Maybe we could do this as a fun experiment.

:D

OOH - black light flowers!

(coincidentally, I was planning a prank involving a black light, a coleus plant, and a bunch of highlighters, but this might be better)

Speaking for myself, Valentines day will always be a special event, due to the fact that my Dad's birthday is also on V-day.

Can always manage to go to a nice sit-down dinner (NO fast-food!) with Mom & Dad during those days.

My only sister's birthday is on the 15th, and on rare events, we're all together (she normally lives in Seattle or thereabouts).   Was the case this year.  *yaaaay*

My dad often tells a tale about himself:  it wasn't until the 2nd or 3rd grade, when he figured it out that they were NOT celebrating HIS birthday at school.....
