It's when they say on the BBC that it's near 50C in some middle eastern country or other (happened a lot in Iraq war when they seemed obsessed with temperature), that my mind starts playing up. After all, there is nothing to actually prove that on a nano level I am here not there. Or quantum.

I  have an ancient wooden room thermometer by my bed, filled with mercury. It is useful to tell how many blankets I need. Anyway, it only goes up to 130 F. (they did not have celcius in those days) so I am often concerned it will burst with dire consequences for the surrounding areas.
