Well, the Shrub has given his last State of the Union address (thank god   :woot: ).  Here is a list of some of the words used in the speech, and their frequency.

Quote
Time Magazine takes Bush's State of the Union address and details the word frequency.

He used the word "terror" 23 times, but the word "future" only 13, and "hope" only 11.

He used "security" 13 times, but "freedom" only 9.

"Nation" got 24 mentions, but "citizen" only 10.

He spoke of "Iraq" 39 times, but "Afghanistan" only 8.

"Enemy" was important enough to mention 12 times, but "peace" only 8.

"Education" got 4 mentions, but "faith-based" and "holy" each got 3.

The word "science" did not appear.

Notice the last one.  This from the guy that got rid of the White House Science Adviser.

he can't say Iraq, terrorist or nuclear but that never seems to stop him. I find it alarming that Tony Blair managed to say education almosat as often in one soundbite

it is pretty clear in the UK that politicians get elected by talking about education, crime and health. We dont have a state of the union address as such (unless you count the queens speech which is an outline of an upcoming legislative programme) but i bet education would be mentioned more times than security, terror and iraq put together...

our politicians seem rather embarassed by these subjects

Bush seems to think they are some great legacy

weird!

Didn't say I watched it.  I'm not that masochistic.

Don't give up hope Goat. Putin's rebuilding the military pretty rapidly with all that oil and gas revenue. You may yet see a few T54s in Bradford.

My mother is furious and grieving that "Our Shrub" is in his final days--- and she is terrified that either a female or a non-white male will probably make it in to replace his holiness-- my mother is a product of the south-- it's not pretty. Her sunday school group is now having prayer vigils for the huckster-- to each his/her own- but the huckster? give me a break

Fortunately, saving a *miracle* ;) the huckaburger won't be the GOP candidate, McCain and Mitt 'Mormon' Romney seem to have all the attention now.

Indeed. People like my mother are lining up to vote against him. If there's one thing she despises, it's Mormons, for whatever reason.
She also likes Huckabee, which is beyond me.

Nader is contemplating to effectively give (the) US another GOPster for president. If McCain is the GOP candidate, Ralph could have enough leverage for that easily (especially if Republicans again secretly finance his campaign)

I have always liked old Ralph.

I have a Nader for pres tee that I wear around from time to time- yes I get double takes and yes that is the reason for wearing it.

pieces o nine

This was the first time that I didn't watch the SOTU photo op. My friends are so revolted that they have completely tuned out. I sympathize, but I've been telling them that I think that is part of the goal.

1. "Government is broken." and to prove it, we'll break it.
2. "Education is broken." and to prove it, we'll break it.
3. "The infrastructure is broken." and to prove it, we'll break it.
4. "Common good contracts are broken." and to prove it, we'll break them.
5. "Your safety lies in being scrutinized and terrified." and to prove it, we'll scrutinize and terrify you shamelessly.
6. "Resistance is futile." and to prove it, we'll break everything until you stop paying attention...

Even so, I've only been able to stomach debate summaries and speechifying post-mortems. I've been avoiding the pundit news. (There were not enough antidepressants in Colorado to sedate me for the SOTU live.) I'm de-jazzed about the DemCon being held here.

Meanwhile, all the relatives who voted for 43 -- twice -- because of his "morality" are split between mourning and claiming that they were always suspicious of him. To show that they've learned their lesson about being fleeced and terror-mongerfied, they were looking hopefully to Giuliani and Huck.

I had a few friends who were contemplating Guiliani--'he's a moderate and that's what we need!'
I was SO excited when he dropped out--that man is trouble on two fishnet stockinged legs.

Huck, well, not sure if he has much chance. He'll get some votes, sure. From people who voted for B43 twice for the morality reasons PoN was talking about (My mother, for instance, likes his stance on abortion, which is apparently her voting issue).

And amen, PoN, on what you were saying. Dunno if there's enough anti-depressants in the whole damn country, though.
OTHER things might make it watchable--though I think the purple and pink elephants might be a weee bit distracting.
