Does anyone here know a reliable, safe website to check other websites for malware spreading (or suspicion thereof)?
The problem is, there are many sites claiming to do that service but how do I know that they are not just a front to spread malware themselves?
Whom can I trust to tell me which sites are safe to visit?
Of course I could call the NSA but they would then make use of my saucy surfing habits to blackmail me. :o
I would avoid that site that has just been hacked and members details stolen.. you know, the one for married people wanting an affair.....but I guess you probably wouldn't use that particular one anyway.
Have you tried looking on ZDnet ? I don't know if they provide the function you want, but they are a genuine good port of call for all sorts of stuff to do with techy stuff.
Type "websites" "safe to visit" into google and you will get MS&^%^ safety info, and a variety of the trusted anti-virus providers - alll trustworthy.
What is MS&^%^ ?
Googling the terms you gave me informed me among other things about travel security in Ukraine and whether there was danger to get murdered in Iceland (no joke) ???
And a lot of sellers of anti-virus software (or maybe front websites pretending to be them?).
ZDnet (I get to the German version) looks like something for people with at least some understanding, and I am rather a digital troglodyte.

I believe that there is not, and never will be, such a website as you are looking for:
1) The information you are looking for is constantly changing (in both directions).
2) Can you say "Invitation to Sue"?
3) How could anyone track it anyway?
You can't hand off your security like that.
You should use a reputable free security package, or use a reputable paid security package. The only one I have never seen anything make it through is Kaspersky Internet Security. It what I use on all my machines, for many years...
If it wasn't constantly changing, I'd not need such a service ;)
The problem is I once had the adress of such a site that would check sites and give an estimate based on known past. Red meant known malware spreader in the past. Green meant that no case had been reported (yet). Of course with a 'no guarantee, be careful' warning. But I simply can't remember.
Firewall and anti-virus are measures of last defense. It would just be nice to have a general info beforehand about whether one was about to step into Palermo Central, downtown Kabul or the nomansland between North and South Korea or just into adult Teletubbyland run by renegade Amish who had had it with the warmongering ways of their brethren. :mrgreen:
There are lists like that for email spammers (like http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx which apparently does more now). The guys that make SpyBot (https://www.safer-networking.org/) use also lists compiled constantly.
I tend to trust open alternatives rather than commercial ones but you must be careful regardless.
I know some here don't like it but I use Norton 360. It rates all results from a Google search and puts an icon next to each one - safe, unsafe and unrated. Symantec use a number of technologies to rate sites includng human assessment. Not sure if that's the sort of solution you're looking for but I have found it very reliable.
On some days such icons appear next to google search results and on some days they don't. No idea about the logic behind.

But as Blue says, or was it Zono, just install an internet security package and likely it will always tell you if a site is safe. I can't explain why your's would be sporadic, unless it is coming from something other than one of such packages. McAfee (which I hate and should change) always advises, most will.
If you are concerned about inadvertently having an affair use the Parental Control options. :mrgreen:
