Like any forum, the Toadfish Monastery's forum is constantly in a state of growth and development, and as in any forum, that growth and development increases the potential for conflict among users of this forum. Accordingly, the staff of this forum has determined it advisable to introduce a formal set of forum rules to more formally convey the set of principles that are already followed at this forum.

Enforcement of these rules is at the discretion of forum staff. Willful disobedience is, nevertheless, strongly discouraged. A formal policy for handling infractions of these rules may be developed if the need for such a policy arises. If you feel a staff member has applied a rule unfairly, please discuss the matter in a private message with the staff member in question, rather than in the middle of another discussion. If you and the staff member are unable to reach a resolution, contact an administrator.

These rules are subject to growth and change. If such change does occur, effort will be made to ensure that all active members are informed and up-to-date.

During the process of your registration for use of this forum, you accepted and submitted to a Registration Agreement. We would like to remind you that in addition to the rules below, the policies outlined in said agreement remain in effect and continue to be enforced.

1. Be Human. The Toadfish Monastery's mission is to better worldwide communication through tolerance, humility, understanding, and mutual respect. In order to help us achieve this objective, please contribute to this forum as the human being that you are, not as an internet persona. The Toadfish are all human (or at least mostly ;)); foster mutual respect and understanding by reciprocating.

2. Be Tolerant and Understanding. The purpose of this forum is not to endorse or otherwise promote any particular viewpoint on any particular subject, other than as stated in the mission statement. Accordingly, a great diversity of opinion exists and is actively encouraged, and it is thanks to this diversity that the forum is able to have its unique brand of discussion. We therefore ask that you approach discussions understanding that the opinions and experiences of all members may be different from yours, and it is not your duty to change them.

3. Be Humble. Please use this forum to learn from others and grow personally as a result. Please do not regard it as a mere vehicle to promote yourself and your views. Please do not proselytize.

4. Be Respectful. In order to promote the Toadfish values of mutual respect, we ask that you respect your fellow forum users and make your posts as easy to read as you can by following these guidelines: (For more information on a guideline, click its link to expand it. Click again to collapse.)

Please note that the Piratical fora are generally exempt from these regulations. Please also note, however, that said fora are subject to their own regulations and moderation, and do not constitute a "free-for-all," unmoderated area.

If you have any comments, concerns, questions, or suggestions regarding these rules, please post in the topic below or send a private message to a staff member.

Thank you for posting these, Alpaca. Most of us using this forum are self-regulating and don't really need rules, but it is very helpful to have them here in case someone new needs clarification.
