The cover for Swato's hymnbook.

Seriously.

This is why I love dA.

If we ever did a real monastery, this should TOADALLY be one of our windows.

No, thank you. Stained glass window with Old One, yes*. Sacred Heart, NO!
Should I turn terrorist it will be blowing up chapels and churches centered on that kind of tasteless "Holy" art** (Alt-Ötting, you will be first!)

*Could you find more of that? The person I wanted to draw the cover has not answered yet.
**There are very tasteful pictures of Jesus and/or Mary around, and I am not an iconoclast per se but there are few things I find more nauseating than certain kinds of religious kitsch and the mentality that goes with it
Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

Certainly. I can dig around dA for you and find some more stuff. They're usually pretty cool with people using their stuff, too, if you ask permission and give credit, of course.

I thought the sacred heart bit was hilarious--but then, as a recovered catholic (IE-no longer), it amused me.

I can only speak as a recovering Unitarian (whatever THAT means!), but I thought the sacred heart kitchiness was fabulous. Could've been gushing out some green blood, though.

I also grew up with the exposed hearts, sad accusing eyes (when they weren't being displayed on plates *cough*St Lucy*cough*) and various other images (*cough*St Sebastian*cough*) which would have been Strictly Forbidden if not for the halos.  ::)

That said, this image brought tears of fervor to my eyes! Thank you!

Although, it doesn't quite measure up to one of my all-time favorite stained glass windows. It featured the IHS monogram, cunningly wrought in green, white, and gold glass, so that it appeared to the undiscerning eye as a giant $.

Hah! That's great.

Maybe Swato's would need some squidling cheribum squinching about in the background, drinking rum and doing various other cute and mischevious acts.

anthrobabe

I sort of like the flames shooting out of the top of the heart.

and who's going to get the squidlings to sit still for the glass maker to sketch them-- not me-no way, last time I went into a room with them they stole my shoes and buried them in the compost heap.

Opsa

If we let the squidlings into the rum supply again, maybe we could take their little passed-out bodies and position them appropriately. JUST KIDDING Professor Swato! I would not harm the squidlings.

Ya know, with the flames and all, the heart looks more like some sort of misfiring engine part, wrapped in barbed wire.

Swatopluk

I can never remember, whether the Old One has 3 or 5 hearts.
As I said, stained glass would be perfect but my own abilities are too limited to do it myself or to fake it believably.
If avoidable no external coyprighted material even with consent of owner.

I believe you are right about that, Sibling. We have some awfully talented people here who might give it a go if you wish to collaborate.

I have drawn the Star spawn before and I have plenty of reference material right next to me.
*looks at the pile of RPG books hasn't found their place in the new bookshelf's* ;D

I'm a bit swamped and most of my things; pens, pencils, scanner etc. are still buried in boxes, but as long as I can take my time and work on it on my free time I think it could work.

Hit me with your ideas about the cover and I'll see what I can do. My main medium is watercolour, I also work in Photoshop and Illustrator. If any one else think they can provide the Stained Glass look (better PS skills than I have) but doesn't feel like doing the composing of the picture I can do the sketching part.

I have something that might do as a stained glass window effect, so we can try it whenever...
