Homage to the Great

[Kiyoodle the Gambrinous]

I thought we needed a place, where we could pay homage to the great people of our time, who aren't among the living anymore.

I had the idea, when two great directors died, Ingmar Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni, both on the same day (July 30, 2007). Their genius has touched many.

They shall be missed, but they will live on in their works.

Dr. Dian Fossey 1932 - 1985
PhD Cambridge University 1974 in Zoology.
Established the Kariosoke Research Center in Rwanda 1967, where she studied and lived among the mountain gorilla. Her groundbreaking research further helped to dispel many of the myths surrounding gorillas- she proved once and for all the fact that Gorillas are truly gentle giants.
She was murdered by poachers at Kariosoke in 1985. She is buried on the mountian beside her beloved Digit(male gorilla, webbed digits, first lasting gorilla contact she made, murdered by poachers who stole his hands, feet and head-leaving his body to rot-found by her staff and buried by her), Dian was never the same- she mourned this being the rest of her days.
At my zoo- the LR Zoo we have a male western lowland Gorilla who is her namesake- Fossey- he is father to 10 month old Mosi.
Mountain Gorillas number about 700 in the wild- none are in captivity, besides the Cross River Gorilla sub-species they are the most endangered primate on the planet.

RIP Luciano Pavarotti, who died this morning.

He may have been unable to read music (he had a coach) but his voice sweetness was unique.  May he rest in peace.


On a side note, now Domingo and Carreras are talking about the concerts and how 'fun' it was. Obviously they are not saying that they never crossed a word backstage...

World Rally Champion Colin McRae died in a helicopter crash this past weekend, along with his five-year-old son and two friends, an adult and a child.



The same weekend, a well-known (within the sport) amateur American rally driver succumbed to cancer.  If you looked up "sisu" in an English-Finnish dictionary, you'd find his picture.



I doubt he ever made a dime off driving, but he was definitely among "the Great" that deserve some homage.

for them and

for his childs mother who presumably survives somwhere and is facing a long "rally" of her own.
