G'day from Downunder, Saranac.

The ways of the Toadfish are manifold and the deep recesses of the Monastery are largely uncharted.  You are invited to help us explore and find out new things.  Also, drop into one of the pubs when you feel the need, or even if you don't!  We're always up for a chat or a bit of quiet reflection...

It was quite a while since you stole any peg legs or pinched any pirate bums...  ;D ;)

Greetings to all. Been absent for a while, but back to normal (or at least as close to normal as I ever get...)

For the information of new bods to our lovely Monastery, I'm the big grey fellow in the robes, often found in the pub. Don't worry about the eye-patch and cutlass..... ;D

Welcome! Glad to have you here!

You are one of his Topix friends, yes?
I consider him a friend, I hope he considers me such.

Come on in!

Yaaay!  And welcome!  and yes, I do.  :)

...and now that you've the log-in flexibility, I see exactly how you intended your ID to be.  Cool. It certainly explains the otter jokes over on Topix.  ;D

If you elect to take a swim in the Monastery's moat, be sure to watch out for the squidlings who often hang out there.   ;D

Oh, and being an otter, you might be the first-ever person who LIKES the fish head stew (in the Pirate's section, of course).   Who could tell?

On the other hand-- I'm told that it may not actually contain any fish heads....  ::)  ... or if it once did, they have vanished into the depths of the stewpot.... along with who knows what else...

Dude, you seriously missed the chance to say "On the otter hand..." toward the end there.

Well, I'da done it...but I'm an inveterate punster, too. (You know, where half the people you know are too busy groaning to laugh, and the other half are too busy laughing to groan?? Yeah, that bad.)

Humor, it's what divides us from the Republiclones...

And makes us cousins' of the other animals we share the planet with.

My parent's dog (now long since in Doggy Heaven---or as many have surmised, just plain Heaven) loved to play jokes and tricks on people.

One of his most amusing "jokes" was to dunk himself in his wading pool (kept there for him to cool off on hot days) and then go get next to someone and shake himself, spraying the person in question.

The more you fussed about getting wet, the more he seemed to delight in doing said thing.

He would even come at them from behind, to avoid them noticing he was sopping wet... very smart "animal".

You could tell he was "laughing", too, from the way his ears were, his mouth was, and his tale/body language.  He was laughing!

Humor?  No, I think that it's a function of life itself.

Who knows?  It may be that is the Reason Why.

Many dogs certainly has a sense of humour.
William our first Irish Terrier liked to terrorize me in the mornings. I'm not a morning person and was still half a sleep when I got up and walked though the house to the bathroom... William would hide behind a door or behind the couch then sneak up behind me and put his cold wet muzzle in hollow of my knee.

I would go Eeeeeeeee! and he would just stand in front of me wagging his tail vigorously and trying to look as puppy like as he could manage, later when he learned to "smile" he would do that too.
I use "smile" because it's not a pretty sight, and it's not a natural behaviour for dog to show his teeth when his happy, but I guess William didn't know that...
