Toadfish Monastery

We've moved the Monastery brick by brick to another island. The redecorations may take some getting used to. However, we should never run out of space again which is why we had to move.

While moving, we took the opportunity to refurbish the Monastery so things may look a little different. However, everything except avatars and attachments seem fine. I found some of the old avatars. To see/choose them -> profile -> select choose from gallery -> choose "Siblings".

Why is finding out how many amps appliances use like drawing teeth?

I have a 13 amp socket (UK standard). I want to plug in via extension 4-gang socket:

Phone charger with phone
Answerphone machine
Digital-Analogue phone adapator
Printer

All of which I estimate will be less than 13 amps. But can I be sure of that?

I have two TV Boxes - the sort that provide streaming stuff etc. and I have a remote for each. There's only one place I can put them and I have one box above the other.

Both remotes' on/off function work on both boxes so for example when I switch off one box it makes the other box come on, and it takes a lot of fiddling to get both boxes off.

I don't understand why this is happening as one box and remote are IR and the other box and remote is bluetooth.

I am wondering if there's anything I can do to make the remotes and boxes come off and on independently.

BJ has rewritten the Ministerial Code ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministerial_Code ). Now Government Ministers can misbehave without punishment. I assume so he doesn't have to resign. Another step on the way to a fascist state.

This is very bad news given what has gone on and is going on.

At present I have a bunch of videos stored in my domain on my webhost's server. I want to move them to some free external online storage facility like eg. vimeo. to save space in my website.

I could use BT Cloud - Dropbox - Vimeo etc but one has to log in to them to play the videos.

My website has a page with thumbnails for each video. It used to be that you click a thumbnail and the video played - it was embedded html. This stopped working a long while ago as I never got round to updating the software when required. I want to amend this page so that when you click a thumbnail it opens a new browser tab and plays the video now located in external video storage. This could either be by a link to the video using video player of the external online storage system or embedded video player in my website. But I want anyone to be able to click the thumbnails and play the videos without having to log in to the cloud storage. I'm having trouble googling for what I want as it is not straightforward to explain.

An additional feature would be nice - that the only way to play the videos is via my website so they are all secure in the cloud - the thumbnail page could get hacked but it's not advertised anywhere so you'd need to find it in a sub-sub directory under my domain, so it is tucked away out of site for people who know it's there and not for people that don't know it's there.

Can anyone recommend best solution to all this?

All images should now show up including Smileys, Avatars and Attachments.

However, if you uploaded an avatar while they were missing, then you will need to upload it again. A bit of a mystery as to why. I may resolve it so only upload if you see your avatar missing.

All Avatars and Attachments from the old Toadfish Monastery should now be showing up.

For some reason I can't fathom Aggie's avatar is missing. All others seem to be there, but let me know if not.

Edit: Think I have fathomed it - if you added an avatar in the "new" Monastery it seems to have disappeared since I have restored the others. I cannot fathom why.

So Aphos and I both have missing avatars. As does Aggie. Don't know about others. They will need to be uploaded again. Sorry.

When posting/replying on the forum one does not get images of smileys above the text input box.

I was just on a zoom where the host had published the link on a public Facebook page (yeah, incredibly stupid thing to do, but people are stupid around technology) with the Zoom meeting having no security (unfortunately I did not know until too late). Needless to say, we got an unwanted guest who shook his bare behind at us.

That's a simple thing to do getting into the meeting by using the link but after a minute or so, this changed and became a duplicate of me as zoom user. He then sent chat messages as me. There were my original user presence plus another one as me so I appeared to appear twice. Would he have just entered my name as a duplicate so it looked like me talking, or would he have actually highjacked me in some way? What I need to know is how compromised am I? Is it restricted to that zoom session or does the hack method mean my laptop, or other web accounts are compromised? I can't find any answers googling this specific type of event.  (Meeting's host non-techy so can't ask him and can't access his zoom account to see attendees in zoom reports.)

I think I may have a dodgy graphics card or power surges or whatever.

My new laptop is going dark then resurging bright and images have partial areas of glitter. The effect is odd. For example, every word displayed has the first letter glittering in two word story, then the effect wears off. Some images the effect does not wear off. The display is very selective. A mountain scene has just the climber's body showing glitter.

I don't know what to do, I am covered by warranty and care plans, can have on site help, but not while Covid is going on at least until I have the vaccine. On the other hand, I can't survive without a machine (supermarket for example) and "not going mad with boredom".

I think Bluenose will be arriving as I think I've sorted his problem out.

He was using a special Mental Block theme, which does not apply to this new site. I have set him to default like everyone else and hoping that was the problem.

Do I remember correctly some of you  had a problem logging in? If so, what did you do about it? Bluenose can't login gets an error page of some sort. Also his account settings missing. Which is really odd.

Apart from the things I have yet to do, like rescuing mr green, there's a few things I'd like feedback on.

The Monastery has been sending me forlorn error emails telling me "could not connect to database" but doesn't give any more information than that.

Has anyone had errors since coming here?

Also, somehow the permissions for what different group's/user's etc levels did not transfer properly.

Is there anything you can't see which you used to see?

Some things aren't working yet. Mostly anything involving (system) images.

Also, some permissions have been lost. Most are fine, but if you find you can no longer access something you used to be able to access, please let me know by posting here or by PM.

Also to remind everyone, photobucket has pulled the bucket on free image storage.

I've got several accounts, email, facebook, etc I have to check every day. I already feel really overloaded.

Now a group of people want me to communicate with them by Whatsapp.

I do not want to have yet another communication portal, my phone is overloaded, I have great difficulty typing more than a few words on my phone.

What I'd like to achieve is Whatsapp to automatically use one of my existing accounts, which I access on my laptop, like say gmail, which I check every day.

How?

Or is there another solution?

I have a router (actually a BT Hub) connected to a modem. This accesses the Internet (surprise surprise).

So let's call the Hub Nigel.

My Tablet connects to Nigel via wi-fi.

My laptop connects to Nigel via wi-fi.

I want the Tablet and laptop to see each other.

I could do this in earlier windows, but I can't see how to achieve this in Windows 10.

Any ideas?
