I just discovered a potential fix for bot registrations which are getting cleverer at cracking CAPTCHA.

Haven't tried it yet myself.

http://www.thesamet.com/blog/2006/12/21/fighting-spam-on-phpbb-forums/ is the web page with the suggested code

but it also links to http://4fxearth.net/applications/Math%20Question%20During%20Registration.txt giving the usual kind of Mod Script changes.

While the example is for phpBB, this code ought to work for SMF - any forum software - if put in the appropriate place.

We haven't had any bots registering since CAPTCHA was turned on. ;D

That's interesting. I've got CAPTCHA on but it's a basic one and I am about to install the Advanced one. Bots are driving me nuts.

SMF CAPTCHA is pretty good.  SMF overall is better that phpBB, SMF and Joomla together just don't work well on shared hosting.

I joined a site the other which had such a good CAPTCHA I couldn't work it out at all
