Sibling Chatty

OK, folks.

AMAZING news. Spectacular news. ASTOUNDING news.

We all know that the Chatty has been driving the Hated Nasty Green Momvan. It eatses the gas BADLY...and it's a big, clunky van...and if I have to go to Louisiana to do the doctor, surgery, check-ups thing...it would eat me alive on the gas bill.

Somehow, I have an amazing group of friends, both in pixel-space and in meatspace.

Some meatspace friends are buying me a 2003 Toyota Echo. We've been looking at cars, online, in person, etc. (These are friends in Killeen.) Today, after the Mom Doctor Appointment and Errand Running Festival, I was to go look on a dealer lot at something I had seen on Autotrader. It wasn't 'what I wanted' but, I was gonna look.

97 degrees out, hot and grouchy, I was "Go home, look later." No, the Fates, the whatever, God in some form...said "Get thee to that dealership NOW. NOWNOWNOWNOW." So I went.

No, the Mazda 626 was a 6 cyl, it was ALSO a standard...and the limited use of my left side means my standard shift driving days are pretty much over. BUT, off to the side, not with the rest...there was a 2003 Echo. White, immaculate, you could eat off the engine it was so clean. Traded in 30 minutes earlier. Would have been gone to the detailer's 10 minutes later, and not back before late tomorrow, which would have been AFTER I'd looked there.

The elderly couple that traded it in on a Kia Rio (Kia/Hyundai are the leaders in gas mileage on the new car ratings, almost across the board, but definitely in the small and mid-sized cars) had dropped it and gotten their car this afternoon. They'd gone to the Toyota dealer to buy another Echo, but the salesman told them they didn't make the Echo anymore---never mentioning the Yaris replacing it!

So...one 'ding' where someone rear-ended the car with a front bumper winch. NO bumper damage, just a 1.5 inch slight crease in the trunk deck, but it's been painted (dealership) and is not noticeable unless you LOOK hard.

The price they were asking was $900 below NADA trade-in, and $2,800 below NADA retail--for one with higher mileage!

And Frank and Tris bought it for me. Bank transfer tomorrow. These are NOT wealthy people. He was without a 'meaningful' job for over 6 years, AND they have a daughter in college, in a private school. But, they are my friends, and we love each other.

At 38/mpg, I CAN drive to Louisiana when I need to. I CAN have the medical stuff done I need done.

I am blessed. Such good people don't come along often...but I'm glad that they're my friends, and shocked that they wanted to do this.

Now, THAT is pretty good news!!

Congrats Chatty! Hopefully it will be as reliable as mine has been. BTW those are made in Japan (as opposed to Corollas and Camrys). Enjoy!

I am done with high school.

Two more things - I need to play piano for some silly senior celebration, and I need to attend my own graduation.

And that's it! Done! Donedonedonedonedone!

Thanks, anthrobabe!

AND... on top of all that (and to complement Chatty's new car story), I got a vehicle last week.  Just in time, too, since my old van's strut tower was getting to the point that it shouldn't be on the road much longer.

It's another 10-year-old minivan, but with mileage that suits a car half that age, and overall condition that suits a car half THAT age... and what I paid was at the lower end of the 10-year-old minivan price range.   ;D

Please cancel all previous HAPPY about the car. The SOB lied to me, there was masive badly repaired front end damage that didn't show up...

Palmer Kia, Bryan Texas. They'll "fix it"  (a different car or the money back) or I will need help covering every automotive website on the 'net with the story. (Newspapers and TV I'll get).

The car just shorts out while running...
