This is why I only buy free-range meat, and by free-range I mean the decent version. Battery farming is sickening.

I'm striving towards that (at the moment, I'm still eating factory-farm meat regularly at work, mostly because it's free ; I generally eat veggie at home). I got to meet the pigs today, one of which I'll be eating part of this fall.  They looked happy, were rooting around in a pasture shaded by large pine trees, and were curious and friendly when we went in their enclosure with them. They all came running when we first drove up to the place, to check out who was coming, and lined up again as we drove out.

I know I'm causing the death of one of those animals, but to see that they will have a natural, carefree and social life expressing their pigness makes me smile. Manner of life is more important to me than manner of death. Death sucks regardless of how it occurs.
