A great deal of the debates-must-go-on thinking is centered on the concept that as President, one CANNOT afford to stop everything else cold dead for ONE crisis.

Both Senators were capable of 'working' on the bailout by phone, Obama had been doing so, one presumes McCain did as well, BUT he demanded this BIG meeting, in which he basically sat there like a lox while EVERYBODY else "articulated" his bullshit demands. (More deregulation, no accountability, something that was a forgone "outta there" by even the most insane Rethug accountings.)

McCain demanded the meeting, Bush followed protocol and had the Senior House member (Pelosi) start off. SHE handed off to Obama, who stated the Democratic position. Then, to the Senior Senator, McCain, who handed off to his 'subordinates' and never said a word.

What was the rush? To get to the Senate?? And then he went to his condo and did everything else by phone?? AAAHHHH the phones don't work from Mississippi to DC?? Maybe just for McCain, they don't? No, it was a ploy to postpone the VP debates, because putting SP (aka Caribou Barbie) up againsh JB is sorta like asking one of the squiddies to take Professors Swato out in a battle of the minds. (Apologies to the squiddies for the insult. We know the squiddies are smarter because they have not claimed foreign policy experience for dragging the flotsam and jetsam of the entire universe into the moat.)

There's also the issue that debates can turn an election. Remember Kennedy versus Nixon? Radio listeners said Nixon was better, but those who watched it on the boob tube said Kennedy did better. Look who ended up in office, hm?

A friend's son (blinded in the War on TRR'R, in Iraq) was, prior to the debate, leaning toward HooYaa Marines!! Bullshit support of McCain.

He listened to the debate, of course did not SEE anything, and turned to his Mom and asked WHY McCain lied his whole way through? Why he misquoted, lied, sounded like a snotty old fart...and then his Mom told him how McCain behaved.

New Obama supporter.

Not to mention that the guy was yelling at the computer "McCain, you f'ing lying sack of shit, you DO NOT support the disabled vets, you've got a 20% DAV rating. Don't go all grandpaternalistic on me unless you and the <c-word> intend to support us all outta her beer-soaked pocketbook.

His Mom's glad she didn't have to actually introduce him to reality. Until the military gets its ass in gear? He's DAMN lucky to have working parents that can support him. Of course, this 'little set-back' is going to really screw up that career he went to 4 years of expensive college for. Hard to do much with a degree in graphic design unless you've got a REALLY GOOD seeing eye dog...

He's not really adjusting well...is in a LOT of denial. His Mom hopes this will move him toward accepting reality a bit more, in realizing that there's no good reason for more people to die or be wounded, or blinded, just to bolster GWB and the Neo-Con's wet dreams.

I've said for years now, the BEST way to support troops is to get them the aich-ee-double-hockey-sticks outta harms way.

I truly cannot fathom how either Bushya and McTurd-droppings can stand up there in front of a camera and claim to support our troops while drastically cutting their after-service support system.

I truly cannot understand why they do not simply explode or something.

A while back I found something called the vOICe. Its a software that translates images into sounds and after a period of training can be quite effective, making it possible to 'see'. Learning how to use it isn't easy at the beginning but then again reading braille isn't either.

He's back in the hospital.

Evidently the 'crack surgeons' that supposedly got the metal shards out of his face didn't get them all. (Both in Germany and in the US.) He was to have had some work done to rebuild part of the missing bone structure, and the doc wanted an MRI first, so they did a couple of OTHER scans just to make sure.

No MRI's. There's a junkyard that they left in, although they ASSURED him the metal was all out. His parents are emptying their retirement money to pay for his care. I'd like to see every cent of it refunded from Bush's personal funds. Or Cheney's. Instead, they'll keep working until they're 75 to pay what they need to take care of their son.

There is not a level of Hell low enough for Bush, Cheney or their little lying buddy, McCain.

And more terrible (as IF  this could be plotted on a scale) is the terrible number of young men and women needlessly maimed in body and mind to line the pockets of the chickenhawk neocons beasting the drums for it. (Not to mention the injuries suffered by allied service members, because they're certainly not being mentioned in our news.)

And beyond terrible is the obscene number of civilians who were born on the wrong side of imaginary lines and are even more invisible in their deaths, injuries and shattered lives.

They took 5 pieces of metal out of Denny's head this evening. One was where an MRI would have dragged it through an artery. There's a neurosurgeon coming in from Boston tomorrow. She's done this before. She doesn't bill the patient, but sends a bill to the DOD. And Bush, personally. And Cheney, personally. And Rumsfeld, personally.

She's been described as "One pissed off woman, and considering her stepson's in Iraq, she's got a right to be." She also WILL NOT do media. At all.

They're lucky she's very active in the medical field so that she hears about people, and that people know about her. One of the people with Doctors Without Borders told her where to find them...

My perception is that some repugs don't want to bail out anyone from soon to be ex-home owners to banks. The other group wants to bail out just the banks with no oversight or consequences for the culprits.

In reality the bill is so big that everybody wants to milk it somehow.
