Sometimes I think that the rest of the world should have a elector vote or two in the US of A election...

I mean, the person who is elected to be the president of USA has the single most influential political position one person can have in the world today, his or her decisions affect the whole world.

It isn't as bad as during the cold war but the president of USA still has that big red button and one of the worlds mightiest armies under his/her command, the world economy is also largely depending on political decisions the president makes, not to mention the efforts to save our environment or that the way USA view treat human rights, rubs off on other nations military and police forces (if they do it we can do it too), which mean a great step in the wrong direction.

Reading the wikipedia page on the shiny candidate, I noted that he supports the so called "Fair Tax".

The Fair Tax Act (HR 25/S 1025) is a bill in the United States Congress for changing tax laws to replace the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and all federal income taxes (including Alternative Minimum Tax), payroll taxes (including Social Security and Medicare taxes), corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, gift taxes, and estate taxes with a national retail sales tax, to be levied once at the point of purchase on all new goods and services.

Am I going crazy or is this the worst possible idea ever conceived? Suddenly I get a few hundred more bucks a month but everything (food and services) is 30% more expensive (look ma! it's now 30% harder to pay a university!). Unless math and logic have suddenly abandoned me, the BIG burden of the tax would go to the middle class (the poor would get a rebate, and the rich... well, who cares if potato chips are 30% more expensive, those are even more expensive in Europe!).

Poor, poor corporations and investors wouldn't pay a cent, and I'm sure they would move to wherever is cheaper to live. Besides all great economists are behind the idea!

What should be his coffin nail is the affair about pardoning that violent rapist against massive precautionary advice because his victim was connected to the Clintons. That the guy became a rapist-murderer shortly after that is just the icing on the cake. But that will only be used against him, if he threatens the final primary winning of the party-leadership-anointed GOPster. Should he become the actual candidate, any mention of this unsavoury affair will be denounced as "liberal policy of personal destruction" and it will also be claimed that it is the liberals that favor releasing dangerous criminals for nefarious reasons as a general principle.

I don't think any GOP candidate can beat Obama.  Obama is okay but we really need somebody in the White house that wants to cut spending.  The only candidate talking about cutting spending is Ron Paul.   *sigh*

Cutting spending implies cutting social services, cutting military spending or both. There is pork but that comes from the senate usually embedded on big bills (for how long can a president veto those without risking a 60% vote?). No democrat can openly talk about cutting social services, and in the current state of fear, talking about cutting military spending is unthinkable for any candidate.

Ron Paul (who I respect although I don't agree with him in a number of issues) has no chance to become president; the question is if he has enough support to be considered as a vice president but if he is a decent human being I don't see him as a ticket with Huckabee. With Giuliani? Perhaps with McCain but that is a looooong shot.

I still believe for historical reasons that it is more likely for a democrat to fix the deficit than a republican though.
