Wishing my Toadfish Siblings, Pirates and Owls a beautiful evening of fun and wonder and sweets!

In the pagan tradition, this night is known as Samhain and is a time to remember the past and see how we are the connection to the future. Death is only a part of life and we need not fear it, as whomever we touched in life will take part of us onward with them. So make a merry present for the ghosts that may visit you tonight. Say hello to a lost friend in your thoughts or make a symbolic offering of candy to the small person who might trick or treat when the sun goes down. This is a celebration of life.

Dia de los Muertos is FRIDAY!!

Woot!! :woot: :woot:

All Hallow's Eve is the 31st, All Saint's Day is the first, and All Soul's Day (Dia de los Muertos) is Nov. 2nd.

When my Mom chooses a Mexican holiday to have a baby, she chooses a doozy. My sister got Cinco de Mayo, I got the Day of the Dead!! (How many folks do YOU know that have had a birthday cake with sugar skulls on it??)

Happy prelude to El Dia de los Muertos, y'all!!

Happy Dia de los Muertos!!!

Hey- we could really use a skull smiley in here!

Hey hey hey- it's Halloween Hangover Day!

We had 16 for dinner last night and all the grownups brought wine, one couple brought champagne! So we had fun. We took the small ones out for Trick-or-Treating, but I'd say only about one in four houses was participating. Still, the little goblins managed to cull some decent bags of sugary loot, so everyone was happy.

There' weren't many who came to our door, either, so we have plenty of sweets left over here to fatten up on against the coming winter.

It was slow around here too, the rain might had something to do with it but I wonder if the election has some relation also.

We (I) didn't get any trick or treaters at all. (it's called "guiseing" here). I suspect turning all the lights off did the trick. ;D I was waiting in the hedge with the hose, though. 8)

I used to go to the big bonfire in Edinburgh, celebrating Samhain, that was fun. Tried to go to the town do, but left after about twenty minutes, as it was dire.

More fun, less health and safety nonsense, please.

Still, felicitous Samhain to one and all.

Light here, too, though I suspect it's because the average of the neighborhood kid is a bit old for Trick-or-Treating. I think it's probably closer to my age, actually.

:D Spent my Halloween at my friend's party and discovered he's a very sweet drunk. And staggery.

Hey, if you have so much candy left over, you can send some over here, to Eastern Europe, you know we need it... ;)

(and I'm still waiting for the picture of the soup to drool over) ;)

I went in and looked at the soup after we chatted and decided that lentil soup is not much to look at, really. Basically, it looks like lumpy mud. It was an aesthetic problem.

But I like lentil soup... ;D

Nevermind, I understand it's not much to look at. :) But I am glad you had fun.

Like you could hide in the bushes
bah
maybe the dark helped and you were very, very still

you're just fun mate

We live on a very busy two lane state highway with no 'breakdown lane' and poor sight lines- so I had no exterior lights on, had closed the one side of the gate that closes and still had some idiot drive their little darlings up in the yard at like 8:30pm--- they actually opened the screen door and rattled the handle.

I like lentil soup too-- no it is not pretty but it is good stuff.

I love lentil soup. I made two big pots of it, one spicy and one notsomuch. I took the thick leftovers and served them over rice on Sunday night. Soul food!
