Or, your favorite Turkey-equivalent, where ever it is you live.

May the end of the day find you all stuffed, and replete with family goodness.

Um. Is it Thanksgiving?  I always thought that had the number 3 in it's date. In fact, I don't even know what the Thanks are for. Although I am educated enough to know turkeys are involved.

In fact, I don't even know what the Thanks are for.

They celebrate the fact the Puritans survived a year in the States, we celebrate that the Puritans left here, and the turkeys celebrate that their problems are all over.

Happy turkey day (whichever it is).

(Now the turkey day song from Addams Family Values is stuck in my head. At least it's displaced Big In Japan.)

And the indians celebrate... well, they really have nothing to celebrate in thanksgiving.

As a sign of sympathy for the indians I will not eat turkey today.

I made lasagna...  ;)

Lasagna. Lasagna trumps all.

Happy Thanksgiving. :)

Well, I had Happy Garlic Teriyaki Pork Loin and Rice Day. There was also a baked bird in the area, but I did not partake.

I just know that any day that ends with pie is a good day!

Happy Tummyache, USA'ns!!

No turkey eaten today (not by me anyway)
We made lasagna last night as well
I see a sibling trend here.

Not bad, but not working so far.   ;)

So if you all eat turkey/lasagne for Thanksgiving what do you eat for Christmas?

that sounds like a challenge to me...

So if you all eat turkey/lasagne for Thanksgiving what do you eat for Christmas?

many of people around here eat the venison they went out and shot on Thanksgiving morning or afternoon or duck- duck hunting on Thanksgiving is big-- really killing anything on Thanksgiving is big....

I don't like the taste of turkey. Gimme ducks! (really, I love the taste of duck. The university canteen had it on the menu about once a month and I tried never to miss it).
Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

Why am I not surprised that you love duck?

No connection really (I don't even own a rubber duck)

Swato it is duck hunting season around here- think I mentioned that- too bad you are not a bit closer I could fill your plate very well- my coworkers are prolific hunters and are always bringing cleaned and  ready to cook ducks and putting them in the freezer for anyone to take home.

Any Thai restaurants close? (I really love Thai duck, BTW, I always have had the thought of them hunting the common pond ducks around here, something about the non-existent availability of duck in the supermarket ;)).

Opsa

Heya!

Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the U.S. The story as I know it is that the pilgrims from England were starving and the Native Americans came along with a bunch of Native American food like turkey and corn and showed them how not to starve in this place. The pilgrims then gave thanks to their God and later went to war with the Native Americans and stole all their property, after they felt stronger from all the good chow.

I do not eat turkey, but we do make a good meal to share and take a moment before we eat it to be glad to be together with what blessings we have. There is a Unitarian grace my Mom usually says:

We are thankful for being.
We are thankful for being here.
We are thankful for being here together.

It's nice, because even the family atheists can be comfortable with it.

Usually we have a crowd, but this year it was only me, Mr. Ops and th' Opsalette. My father in law was under the weather (actually, he is depressed and will often back out of things at the last moment- we've come to grips with this and don't bug him about it, if he's not feeling sociable it's no use). Granan is having a dinner tomorrow night with some out-of-towner relatives.

It was nice, thouygh, very low-key. We didn't have to entertain anyone, just made dinner and took a long walk and made a fire out back, as it was mild and windless. We discussed our parents advancing age and how we'd have to change the traditions, now. I think we'll probably go to Granan's next year so she doesn't have to travel here, and then go to Dad-in-law's for Christmas, as he is getting too old to drive the hour-long way here and has bad night-vision. I think we needed the time to think about this and it was good to have it.

Friend and I had a nice dinner here. And by nice dinner, I mean that she insisted on producing the Whole Shebang, despite there being only two of us. However, her son should be by this evening, and it will be a Good Deed to load that young man up with lots of leftovers!
