It's the day of winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and summer solstice in the southern hemisphere.

Merry merry all around!

The earth has wobbled to it's limit and now starts a slow tilt back the other way. The seasons continue to cycle. Life goes on. Be soothed.

Scriblerus the Philosophe

Indeed. Today at 1pm, we start back towards the light here in the Northern hemisphere.

And Cthulhu missed the date again (or will He wait for Southern winter solstice?)

Wow! It's getting lighter already.

Guess the stars aren't right yet.

If you are looking for a good read, try Roger Zelazny's "A Night in the Lonesome October".  A very interesting Lovecratian tale.

(D@mn...I've misplace my copy.  Will have to get another one.)

Hoi-hoi!

Solstice again! This time we're doing the "longest day" thing here in the Northern Hemi and "longest night" down in the Southern Hemi.

If you are so inclined, this is a good day to attempt to maintain positive, fair, healing thoughts. Every day is, really, but today is also good practice.

Love what's good in the world, hug your loved ones, give your pets a little extra attention, pat a tree, smile at the sun and moon, wink back at a star, hold hands with some dirt or otherwise show appreciation for what deserves it most. Your call.

Aggie

I held hands with some dirt today.  Longest day indeed.... ::)

D@mn, it sure seems the Sun has been staying up for a long time lately.

And still Cthulhu has not come. Must choral more!

Belated happy midsummer everybody!

No garland of flowers in my hair this year, perhaps next year. :D

I'm going to a local Meet Up of like-minded individuals this afternoon.

Does that count as close enough to be celebrating Solstice?

It's my first meeting, and I'm a bit nervous.   I'll actually have to talk to people 'for real'  ::)  ;D

Happy Summer Solstice, Sibs!

Anyone do anything to mark the season?  I got up for a hike at dawn* and am about to head out for a dusk/night mountain bike ride, with lights.

*sunrise, around 6:30 when the sun starts breaking the mountains.  The birds get up with the first hint of light around 3:50 am; I got up for a 4:30 am ramble a few weeks back but didn't care to get up that early this morning.

Cthulhu again did not show up.
Maybe he is angry that it has been so long since I wrote my last song about him.

Epic 2hr Solstice night ride through the Provincial Park with my dad. He kicked my arse.   You can't see very far ahead, so you kind of have to trust that your bike can clear any obstacles that present themselves.
And you've got to holler to keep the bears away.

Saw lots of deer in the headlights on the home stretch.
Got home at midnight, had a beer and rum with dad to celebrate, looked at the stars.  Will be falling asleep to the sound of crickets as soon as I post this.  :D

Merries!!!

We went and saw Wicked-the Untold Story of the Witches of Oz at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. that night. What wonderful fun! I'll never look at Oz the same way again.

Private celebrations here, well under the radar!   :D

Well, having just had the WINTER soltice down under, I am looking forward to a bit less darkness and a nit more daylight in the coming weeks.  I really don't like going to work in the dark and getting home in the dark.  Poor baby, eh?

OTOH, heard a great chorus of frogs last night, so that's always something to celebrate, I just love our amphibian friends.

It really was wonderful. Bob m'dear. We bought the CD on the way out.

Glad to hear the frogs are waking up down under, Blue. Gotta love 'em.
