Hi Everybody,
We have a donate button on the home page (http://toadfishmonastery.com) so that we can help offset the expenses of running the site. Eventually, we'd like to do more than just run the site, but this is where we are now. Don't feel you must donate to participate, because not everybody has the same ability to spend money. We'd rather have you than your money any day. Someday, we'll try to be a real, grown-up non-profit, but for now, we just want to have a server that serves!
The donation box is on the right side of the home page. Donations go to my company InnoStorm Technologies Inc. InnoStorm Technologies is the company that currently pays to host the monastery website. Reason being is because there is not yet a monastery entity to donate to. The donated money belongs to the monastery of course. Feel free to donate as much or as little as you like, or not at all. It's completely up to you.
If you donate please post the amount here so we can keep track of how much money the monastery has. If you would like to remain anonymous, please PM Opsa with the amount you donated.
Thanks,
MB
PS.
Thanks Chatty for helping me with putting words together to form sentences.
Can we donate through media other than the Net ?
Yes you can. PM me for details if you like...
I have received a $100 donation from someone wishing to remain anonymous. Thank you very much!
given the state of the dollar is that about 13 pence?
It was hard earned and much appreciated. >:(
Just got another $50 anonymous donation. Thank you!
Hi Sibling Mentalblock , I tried a net money transaction for the first time with much trepidation , I think it went through . Problem is it would only let me give a buck , what gives ? I must have missed something . Humbly BC .
PS. Never mind I figured it out....( blond moment )
PS. Part 2 , Hey Darren , It has occurred to me that if I could give up a vice ( tobacco ) I could send ya a serious donation every now and then . I had the evil weed under control ( actually the women did by nagging :taz:) but I admit to weakness and am not doing very well with the nicotine . :'(
I havn't had a constant nagger for a while , is there a daily conformation/humble nagging thread . It might help me if every visit i could find a missive like , i know what you're thinking of ! You want ______ ," well you better stop if you know whats good for you mister !" Or ," don't you think of drinking and sailing !" or " If you stopped spending your money on that poison you'd be sailing a _______ instead of that dingy" :)
You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I said I needed two servers. :taz:
If you want to give thats great! I think a small donation from everyone that can is enough. I don't know about giving up drinking though.
I don't really expect the siblings here to pay for the entire cost as I will be putting up most of it. I'll be running some other sites on those servers as well and hopefully that will help to pay for even better servers. We just need to break out of the rut were in. After we get things up and running then we'll set up an online store selling toadfishy merchandise and that will let the monastery stand on its own. Then we turn the monastery into a non-profit and start doing some real charity type stuff. That's more of a long term goal.

Speaking o' the dollar - I'll pledge $10 for every penny the Canadian dollar goes above parity with the USD (at it's peak), should that happen from now until the end of 2007. I'll renew this pledge in the new year if we haven't hit parity yet. Currently 1 CAD = 0.957 USD.
That won't preclude other donations, but might be fun.
Thanks Agujjim!
I'd like to thank the anonymous donors of 351 Canadian dollars, 10 GBP and 50 GBP! Thank you very much!
So far the total is $463.76 US!
I wish I could donate...
I've been thinking about it, but then had a look at my bank accounts and realized I couldn't really... I'm in a bad financial situations, and the job I work in at the moment is cutting hours for us part-timers like insane, so it seems it won't get better any soon.
So all I can donate are good thoughts and encouragement... Good luck...
And once again, I'm sorry, I hope that someday, I'll be able to make a big donation...
Kiyo, just send in your empty bottles.... Darren can take them for deposit. ;D
Glad to hear we are getting donations - just as glad for good thoughts and encouragements!

Those bottles are paying my rent next month... ;D  ;D
Kiyo,
It's okay. Donations aren't required to participate. I don't want anybody to feel like they have to donate. That's another reason why I was resistant to even accepting donations. I wish I could swing it all myself but, I can't. If people can and are willing to donate that's great. If you can't or won't that's great too. Lot's of good people make this place great and you're one of them. That's enough.
Mine are for beer money... of course, I think your beer money is more than your rent!

It's not that I feel obliged to donate or don't want to donate... It's the first thing I'd do at this very moment, because I love this place, I spend a lot of time around here and I really appreciate the work you and the others have put in it...

I still don't know where my beer money comes from. Theoretically, I shouldn't be able to drink and smoke... ;D
If medicine bottles were 'return for deposit back' I could fund the whole thing...
Kiyo, you're entitled to be impoverished. It's part of being a university student. :krabbie: :krabbie: :krabbie:
In a few years, with a good education and a good job, you'll help out then!
Kiyo , I have been told thru a PM that certain folks donating have given more than originally intended so as to include those that cannot afford anything.
With this in mind i think you should consider yourself and all other sibs as contributors .
Regards , Sib BC.
Kiyo,
It's your future donations I am counting on. :D

I'd like to thank the anonymous donors of 351 Canadian dollars, 10 GPB and 50 GPB! Thank you very much!
So far the total is $463.76 US!
what is GPB? what is the conversion rate to GBP?
I only made a little donation because i have limited means and obviously i believe in the principle of "from each according to his means". :goatflag:
Thanks for the donation Goat but you're still a smart ass.
I hope that in the future, I will be able to donate large amounts...
I'm planning to be a millionaire after all... ;D
Every time someone posts the Last Post, a $ dollar should be donated in their name
Qwert will have to rob a bank ! :D

Do you have "rent parties" round your area? It's where you invite friends, strangers, etc to your place for booze and charge a cover charge to make your rent- the alcohol costs like $100(more or less- right you are not buying the really good stuff!) and you make your rent on the rest? Of course do not do this alone- strangers can be dangerous- you must at all times have some coherent friends about that you trust with your life.(sorry-- channeling the inner mom for a moment)
Oh and you better have an escape plan and a very -very nice landlord too!
ahem...
I am a college student myself-- if we all do what we can do--- when we can do it then things will be alright!
(wonder if I can have a - gotta get that @#$%^ transmission fixed party?)
 Oh and a large bank transfer would be nothing to some of these siblings around here--- just a few keystrokes and money would flow like a wash in Tucson in the rain. BUT- we do not promote or condone illegal activity - so none of you dare- or you'll have to be Pachys cleaner upper for the next 500 months!

Thanks for the donation Goat but you're still a smart ass.
I believe you will find that i am a clever goat
PS. I will be recalling my donation if i dont get hugs soon. I am miles away from my century!
No refunds for donation bashing PITA goats!
Here's a hug though. :grouphug:
I bet Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky didn't go round canvassing for hugs. Or maybe that explains the ice-pick.
Chavez however loves a good hug....

That's disturbing.
Especially as that first one looks a little like Henry Kissinger. Has one or other been misleading us about their politics?
he will hug anyone regardless of politics. It is the socialist way!
A trick learnt from the python? ;)
Monty?
Nobody expects a hug from Hugo Chavez!
our main weapon is hugs and surprise..
our two main weapons are hugs and surprise and a fabatical devotion to communistic principles...
etc
HEEE!!!
I love you guys.
Goat is one of only ten people on the internet who use the word "fabatical".
I reckon you can only be "fabatical" about Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds.
Come now, fanaticism is for fans and fanatics. Goatie is much too fab to be a fanatic. ;)
i positively sparkle ;D
FAB:
Fresh Across The Border
Free And Acceptably Behaved
Food And Booze
Fungi Algae Bacteria
I'm sure we can match him to at least one definition.
you are so mean...
Fearless Artful Buccaneer
Fancy Artichoke Bouquet
Heh... I think the community college back home offers courses in Falling And Bucking.
Seems silly... a decent size bottle of booze is usually plenty to get me falling down and bucking my guts out. ;)
Fancy A Beer?
I'd like to thank the anonymous donor of $100 Canadian dollars!
Thank you for supporting the Monastery!
Thanks,
MB
Please accept 100 Aussie bucks from the blue one. Gotta love this place.
Thank you Sir! You're a gentleman and scholar!
Hi there, MB. It's just me here refreshing this thread by saying I'm sending you $40. by mail to keep up this site. Wish it was more. I'll see what I can do later. :-*
Thank you very much Ops! :crabbie:
You're most welcome. Every bit helps. :)
Absolutely! Thanks again!
My significant other thinks I'm building a Beowulf cluster! LOL!
Hi,
I have a test version of toadfishmonastery.org up and running. Let's beat it up and see how good it is. Don't post anything you don't want to lose 'cause this is just a test site. I still need to get my raid card and drives yet but I wanted you folks to see what we have so far.
Thanks,
MB
Cool! What is the address/IP?
---
Edit: Sorry, dumb question, I forgot that we are on .com and didn't notice that you said .org for testing. ::)
Anybody wanna play over at http://toadfishmonastery.org ? There might be a bit of a lag at first in the forum if you have been going straight to the forum... Oh and you'll have to login but it's the same as here.
Please excuse me if you've done this all ready MB, but may I suggest that you start a new announcement pertaining to this specifically in Announcements? Maybe with some basic instructions?

We are above parity - not by much yet, but there's lots of year left.
I would like to humbly suggest that we move the Donations box in the side bar of our home page down a bit. Maybe even to the bottom of the sidebar, under the museum scroll. My concern is that it may look to visitors as if collecting money was a first order of business here. I know it is a very important part of mainataining the site, but I'm hoping not to scare people off, even if it is Halloween time. :o
I'd had the same thought Opsa.
Done.
You, as usual, rock. May I call you Mr. Rockfish?
Sure! Just don't call me late for dinner.
