Lobster Eggs Benedict. You only need a small tail to cut in half and replace the ham in a normal eggs benny, but the birthday person will be blown away. If you use a mix for the hollandaise it doesn't take too long to assemble. Prawns would be a good substitute, too!

Sorry if I lead people astray, my birthday is not the 2nd, rather the 6th of November. I was congratulating Chatty on being a first week of Nevember person too! It's just that in re-reading this thread it seems I have given people the wrong idea and I apologise - I am not looking for more best wishes for tomorrow. Oh, h*ll! It doesn't seem to matter how I write this, it looks like I'm trying to angle for applause or something. I think I'll stop digging now...
BTW, in my family this is a busy time of year, my sister's birthday is on the first, mine the sixth and my mum's is on the 14th. Dad's is on the 11th of December so the last couple of months of the year have always been a sort of hectic season.
Funny how you see things when you're a kid. When I was about 5, I remember that I knew that the reason everyone let off fireworks on Guy Fawkes night was because it was my birthday the next day! :D ::) Well it worked for me!

It turns out it was a sprain in the back.
We have a nonstandard contract with our realtor. We lease the house until it is repaired to our specs and then we officially own it after we sign the assumption papers. All the fundage is in escrow.
Until the sprain, we were looking at assuming it on 1/20, but now it will prolly be 2/15 or so.
They gave me metaxalone for the spasms, and it's been 90% useless. I think a run to the dutyfree for booze is in order.

My favorite "cure" for sprains, after the initial "owww!" with ice, is hot water (or other heat).
Lots and lots of hot water: I foresee lots of hot baths in your future-- as steaming as you can stand.
And, it's scientifically sound: the heat causes your body to increase the bloodflow to the too-hot body part, which helps speed up the healing process.
And candles: you need some candles around your tub, for peace of mind.
And a locked door-- no phone, no interruptions. ::)
I recommend 'Thermacare' brand heat wraps. I've tried several brands, and no others even approach the same quality. The back wrap version promises 'a full 8 hours of heat', I have consistently gotten 16 or more hours of useful heat from these...

I once went into a Sharper Image store with some friends. They had these massage chairs. My friends both sat in them right away--not me, I looked at the price.
After that, I refused to sit--my reasoning is that I might decide I had to have one of the over-priced things. ;D (you could have purchased a fairly decent used car for the same cash..)

Thank you all. This year was certainly different-- I spent "my day" driving back home from Virginia Beach.
We arrived, by airplane (2 different puddle-jumpers. One had 4 very narrow seats side-by-side, VERY narrow center isle. 2nd plane had only 3 seats, one on one side, and 2 on the other, and an even more narrow isle. Anyone not of elfin proportions was no doubt miserable. I'm on the slight side of things, and _I_ was merely uncomfortable) on Friday morning, approximately 11am Eastern. (I got up very early so I could WASTE MY TIME sitting in the waiting area for the plane to be ready. Security, was as usual, a complete joke, carefully designed to separate people from their DIGNITY and not much else. Certainly not SECURE. The waiting area seats were carefully designed to prepare us for the even more uncomfortable seating on the airplane-- sort of a foretaste.)
We picked up the truck by meeting the salesman at the airport-- very accommodating of him. Very nice guy, actually. He had had the truck detailed ahead of time, and the tank was even nearly full! My ONLY complaint is DON'T ARMOR-ALL the FLOOR next time-- was slippery! (it's a WORK truck, and has rubber floors. Preferred in a WORK truck, easier to keep clean.)
My partner and I then proceeded to take turns driving home to Tulsa. 22 hours, pretty much non-stop, except for meals, breaks and fuel.
We drove all of Friday, and well into Saturday to arrive home (Sat) at approximately 1:30pm Central. After a few personal business items, I went to bed, and only woke up a bit ago-- was hungry.
We thoughtfully brought along a selection of audio books, and heard two very good ones. Both mystery. The first one was by the author who's books inspired the TV show Bones (one of my personal favorites). The book was even better, so I WILL be buying that author's actual books in the near future.
So. I "celebrated" my b-day by being insulted by Our Nations Security Forces, being insulted by aircraft designers, and Driving across Our Nation's highways.
All and all, the Highway experience was the best, and most interesting. We had brought along a GPS device, witch made navigation too easy.
A personal highlight was when I drove across the Mighty Mississippi River. It was in Tennessee, on Interstate 40. The bridge was a classic, steel arch design, with but a few lanes in each direction. Cool. Too bad it was pitch dark, too, and I didn't see anything to either side. Oh well. By then, my brain was running on coffee and sugar anyway, and I likely would not have remembered. (For example, I DO NOT remember how MANY lanes I had on that bridge-- just that there weren't as many as _I_ would have thought, for such an important highway. <grin>). At the time, there was faint traffic-- even the big interstate trucks had mostly taken a break.
Interesting b-day all around.
At the very end of the trip, on Saturday, when we were nearly home, we both realized the trip was almost done, and the truck had behaved flawlessly. We decided to indulge in a bit of pawn-shop shopping, and found several bargains in the effort. Is why we didn't arrive until One-ish.
When I got home, I checked in, and turned my phone to "silent" and crashed. Rude of me, I know. <grin>
I think that you deserved a break after all that!

Not as the major theme, I don't think (not enough meat on it), but it's a recurrent 'side issue' in a lot of stuff. Larry Niven's Ringworld cycle, for example, Greg Varney's Cirrocco Jones trilogy, most of Elizabeth Moon's space oriented sci-fi (not the Paksenarrion trilogy). Quite a lot of Heinlein, Spider Robinson... A lot of those also have some sort of 'rejuvenation' technology, to explain it...

she actually did pretty good--- she's pretty non-conformist so getting S*** Faced wasn't a big deal, she wanted Margaritas and so that's what we had(oh and cake and ice cream) not a bad combination at all. I had a fun birthday - I did a charity enduro kart race in the morning, then spent my afternoon swinging a sword around, took a walk around Yorkville, where my wife and I saw the ice sculptures and Robin Williams (he was standing on the sidewalk chatting with a crowd of people for some reason)and finished the day with dinner and an outing to the theatre, where we saw two one-act plays. ;D

I'm roughly one quarter as old as the US is.
I've now been alive longer than some of my favorite role models have been dead.
I've known my best friends for longer than when I didn't know them-- by several times, now.
I'm eligible for AARP membership.
I've worked for longer than I when I didn't.
I've crossed over into the length of time I have left is now less that what I've lived so far-- by quite a bit, actually. (If I live to 75, It'll be a minor miracle).
Most of what I remember is now taught in school as History.
I've already voted for more presidents that I will vote for in the future.

To my shame I must admit that I have a very bad memory concerning birthdays too. I know my own and those of my parents but the latter only because they lie on dates that also carry another meaning. My father on Boxing Day, my mother on my name day*. The latter was unknown to me (and her) until I checked a reference book at the library out of curiosity. The birthdays of my two elder brothers elude me every year. A cluster of relatives in Western Germany have their birthdays in early April. i.e. shortly after my own, so I tend to remember those (but have to look up the exact dates).
*just for the record: I am not a papist saint-worshipper!!!! :D

The calendar is still on the site, I just took the mini-calendar off the home page. The latest events which should include birthdays is still there. It's just not as much of a performance hit as the mini-calendar. I took the mini-calendar off the home page of almost all my sites.
Some of the events on the calendar aren't set to repeat so they only show up once. I'm fixing a few of them.

I'm just back from a trip to the islands, mon. (Okay, these islands are about four and a half miles away from me by car on the US eastern shore.) Biked all over the place ...ahh- beach biking- no hills! Saw a line of eight or nine Sika deer splashing in a row through a wide wetland, and it looked like civilization had not yet begun. Noice, noice. Lartsa beer and wine, too. A good chill was had by all.
I know we had a thrread in here that listed everyone's birthdays. I started trying to put in everyone's birthday as recurring events in the mini-calendar, but it was such a chore I only got to May. (You have to put in the hours of the birthday and it has to be more than 24 to make recurring status, as I recall.)
There's a little check box to make it an all-day event. That is easier.
Leave it to me to do it the hard way. I still can't find the birthday thread, though.

If you or any other Sibling comes to Sweden during summer I promise to make you a cake like that (perhaps not as pretty, I'm not a pro :-[ ), any other time of the year you will have to make do with straight chocolate cake or my (not very orthodox) raspberry Sacher Cake; heavy chocolate cake with home made raspberry jam instead of apricot marmalade and a good dash of (also home made) raspberry liqueur. ;D

Had a cracking time.
Two of my friends also have birthdays in June, and so we decided to have a joint party, and combine it with a Uni reunion. Richard's folks have some land in Aberdeenshire, so we went up and built a dirty big bonfire, barbeque with lots of food, plenty of beverages, organised a clay pigeon shoot, a PA system and fireworks. We told everyone in the nearby village, all the surrounding farms, the police, fire brigade etc.
There were people I hadn't seen for ten years turning up. Grand total of 74 in the end, and we proceeded to celebrate in style. Bonfire was lit at the culmination of the fireworks, all done to 'Ride of the Valkyries'. Already scheming for next year....

Ok so this explains the birthday cake hidden all over the place!
It's sort of like squirrels with acorns but squishy with frosting instead.
Shoes are not for storing cake- it makes the cake smelly.
The post box is for mail- frosting obscures the addresses.
OK, but I assume it's still alright to hide some spare cake behind the cushions of the Chesterfields in the entrance hall, then?

V ordered a lovely 2-layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (my favorite) and put 50 'sparkler' candles on it. It took *all* of us to get candles lit, as we made the obligatory jokes about setting off the sprinkler system. Candles (not much more than wax-dipped wicks) did 'spark' and continually re-lit themselves -- and the smoke of trying to repeatedly blow them out actually set off our (piercing) smoke detectors! H found this hilariously funny.

'Twas a happy day for me and me fambly.

What wit the oldish one not toleratin' extended run times-- it's poor wee tranny will het up sumpn' feirce and refuse to engage th' wee gears. Roun' town, it's a champ. Go on the hieway? It overheats like a banker havnin' t'work on a Monday.
So, off t' the auto-motor vendors they went, yest'd'y.
Now, me folks is agin' as I hast indicated prior-like. They's honest folk, but they's not one't be forceful. So't' sales-goblin had tried't take all advantge-like of they're kindly natures. If'n ya know what I mean.
So, today, finishin' up a wee little jobbie (the A/C needed a wee bit'o re-wirin' to make it get all cool an'stuff. Funny how people hexpect their AC's to make wit' th' cold air. Hennyways, a bit'o wire here, 'an' a bit o wire there, and he was all fixed up-- 'appy as a pig in warm mud) I wandered by me folk'z place, and there was the motorcar they'd selected.
So.
A bit o'intertubin' and I discovered the advantage-- the "deal" turned out to be a wee bit ordinary: I could'o got the same "deal" from any dealer in town-- you could'a say I was whelmed.
So.
I called the auto-motor vendor and hinformed 'is magesty, that we'd be bringin' the auto back, and we'd be hexpectin' their old one t'be waitin' outside, as I had little time, and we had several other dealers to check wit. I was all nicey-nicey super polite han'stuff-- no need t'be nasty-- jest hinformed 'im a matter'a'fax loike.
Well. H'wee get there toot-sweet, hand the manager hwas a'waitin'. Lovely fellow. I hexplained the results of my surfin' t' intertubes. I politely hexplained that his "deal" was merely whelming-- but that I'd prefer if the "deal" was overwhelming instead.
He unnerstood perfectly. Really!
He politely hasked me what moight make me feel overwhelmed. I gave him a figger. Hy also poilitely hinformed 'im that we would'nt be payin' their "dealer prep" fee, that if'n he wanted that, he needed' t' be hajusting t' proice t' hinclude that figger.
He ast' us t'wait.
We waited.
In less than 2 minutes, he returned, with a new figger: 500 smackers under hwhat I had 'ast!
I was hack'tully overwhelmed!
Overall, I figger I saved me agin' folks twenty-five hundred over hwhat they was plannin' on payin.
An' that's as happy a birfday present has hany one could hask.

My hujest apologies to everyone whose birthday has not been listed on the calendar so far this year. Each year I try to put everyone's birthday in to appear annually, but every year we seem to start with a cleaned off calendar again, except for someone who shows up there every year whom I don't recognize. We had a busy weekend here too, as it was Th'Opsalette's BD. She's going into High School next year, so we gave her a cell phone. (Trac Fone, pay as you go.
