So lately I am having what I can only describe as a nostalgic love affair with TON--- naturally the affair is platonic and one sided on my part--    

Who knows what it is--- I was never goth-- I did my share of headbanging in the 80's (explains alot) and I have always had eclectic music tastes--- from Pavarotti to these guys.

Why climb mount everest when green eyed Peter Steele* is in the world. And once again here we go with the bad boys with lots of baggage in a band who reminds me of 'ago'. Sigh and apparently he has also now really and truly lost his mind.
Something about the date of the apocalypse being given to him and 3 others (like a trinity or himself and Johnny, Kenny and Josh). Now does he (avowed athiest-oh the Roman Catholic thing with him lately as well) really think this or is it more likely that
he is simply re-exploring the idea from Carnivore(earlier, theme) days?

To be sucessful as a musician on has to be in the public eye- so I think that much of what they do is geared towards that and the personna they choose to have. I once saw Pete on jerry Springer and he was talking about groupies and how he was just there to pay the phone bill.

Any one else a TON fan? (and it's the music as well)

Let's just say that Anthrobabe's warning is well justified.
And that Peter Steele sits safely on the "Badboy of Rock " throne (since Lemmy can't be referred to as a boy in any way or form any more... ).

I remember TON from MTV's Headbangers Ball in the early '90's,
I'll happily admit that P S posses my kind of voice, you know, you get jelly knees and warm feeling in the stomach area (not to mention other areas).
But it's not my kind of music, it could have been but I got into the Industry/Synth Scene and sort of slid away from the Metal stuff.

It seems like TON and especially P S has a disturbingly amount of fans among the White Power people judging by the hits I got when googling (not for pictures  ). This despite hawing a Jewish guy in the band and having stated that they are not racists... But then, some brown-shirted Einsürzende Neubauten fans didn't got that they were barking up the wrong tree doing hail H's in the front row, until Blixa hit them in the face with the microphone stand hard and repeatedly...

Darlica about the White Power stuff-- really sad but I think the connection is even worse:

Pete Steele has had massive issues with drugs/alcohol and depression(we know about depression) for years-- it finally caught up with him in about 1996 for the worst when he found his girlfriend with another man and beat him to a pulp and got sent to Rikers Island(prison, google it) for a while---- he also went to hospital and rehab as well
He was not happy about any of it at all- he disowned his family and just turned mean(in fact one statement was they just should have killed me but instead now they have unleashed me on the world-and about how he learned how to be an even better criminal while in jail-- so some commentary there on the US justice system). This is when he made the infamous statement during an interview(and he looked bad and was probably on something at the time-the video is on youtube-still no excuse for hate) that he admired both Stalin and Hitler because they alway got it their way--- he is a bit of an egomaniac-always was--and combined with the depression-prison-etc he just got ugly inside. He was also not happy with the record label for releasing a Best of Type O Negatvie album without his 'stamp of approval'-- so he was talking about how it was nice to be able to be on tour "his way" and likes having it his way or the highway and the statement about Hitler and Stalin came from that.

Sigh-- it really hurt my feelings as a fan-- how could I ever support this group ever again knowing that he could sit with a straight face and say something like that--and it has drawn WP to him-- speak in haste and regret at leisure-- at least one would hope he regrets because yes his band mate of over 20 years is Jewish and they are all 4 from Brooklyn NY and that community has always supported them.    There is no excuse for hate or hate speech-- as beautiful as the man is (well all 4 of them are beautiful men!) and as great as his voice is (very tingly) it is hard to 'love' them.

One of my not so god side is that my curiosity often get the better of me, hence I spent quite an amount of time yesterday listening too and reading about TON.

P S does strike me as someone who act/talk first and then thinks (the playgirl apparence for example) I also think he and the band has a bit drastic humour, wasn't "we hate all " a comment to those who labelled them as racists?

Sure he said some really stupid things, but the band, his music, NOT WP and that makes a world of difference to me.
You have found memories of the band at it's summit keep them and cherish them that's what memories are for.
I mean Elvis is an icon right, the young pretty Elvis, not the drugged out of his mind, fat and bitter one... I bet P S is going to be that kind of icon too (in a way he already is), at least for a very black clad crowd.

I think PS has some very serious ADD going on as well-- this does lead one to talk/act first and then be like WTF.     
Alot of it is humor-- I saw an interview once where they'd been on the road for a while and Kenny said "Yeah. Like 16 months now and believe it or not we are already at each others throats." and then displayed some scratches on his arms. To which Peter said-- yeah we have a pet bobcat on the bus.

And the foodfights on stage-- mayhem--and such. Try and find the vid on youtube where Pantera is playing and the opening act TON comes back onstage and starts a food fight-- obviously some very  drunk people having a blast.

So the music has got to be the focus-- his voice does it for me- always has and if he continues to stay alive (gotta stay sober there bud) it probably always will.

BTW-- Kenny and Johnny (who aren't hard on the eyes themselves) are always playing with other bands -- Like Seventh Void-- pretty good stuff.

This thread needs some serious necromancy. I love Type O Negative, and have done since I found them on Noisy Mothers back in the early to mid nineties. I was never a goth either, although I did enjoy one or two...shall I say...trysts? with a few when I was younger (oh, the memories that brings back!). Oh, how I love goth girls. This is why I [allegedly] like the Suicide Girls website.

The band got me through some difficult and tumultuous times, with Pete's hypnotic vocals overlaid on that exquisite music. Truly one of the bands I like to come back to now and again, but not just for nostalgic reasons. The music genuinely touches something inside me.

Did I mention I also love goth girls?

I'm not sure - I thought we bombed his plane over the Channel.  I know his last flight took off from Twinwoods airfield, about a mile from my boyhood home.

I heard he was flying to France in a small plane at low altitude.  Far above him, some bombers were returning from a raid and jettisoned their undropped bombs into that part of the Channel, as per regulations.  His aircraft should not have been in that area, but it would still be a very low-odds bit of bad luck for him to be hit.
