I've read Professor Wrangham's book Catching Fire, which is excellent.  His argument makes a lot of sense to me, but then again he is preaching to the choir as far as I'm concerned.  ;)

I have to say that the idea has some merit.  I don't think it is the entire story to what made us human.  The use of fire, though, certainly opened the door for the development of other technologies, and cooking food freed up a lot of metabolic energy that we humans could put to other uses...like increasing brain size.
