3D-secure rant

I am constantly incensed by 3d secure coming up and asking me to join, apparently pfishing for my personal identifying top secret details, when using credit card online.

It's a huge horror invented by the banking system/credit cards encouraging people to do exactly what everyone else is trying to get internet users not to do.

ie. it is a fine pfishing example which They claim offers additional security to encourage one to take it up. Scandalous.

I am relieved to find that many others are ranting about it and some better than I am able to.

How on earth are the banks getting away with continuing this?  I asked my bank and they were describing it as a security initiative - rubbish, it's dangerous Grrrrrrr!
