I have a friend who still has an original Atari 2600; I had one of these when I was a kid (got it as a hand-me-down after my older cousins got a Nintendo).

If one really wants to play Atari, emulators are widely available on the internet and will let you play all the original games.

I must say that one good feature about the old console games was that even a skilled player could last a matter of minutes before getting a 'Game Over' - today's mega-3D stuff can take hundreds of hours to finish a game.

My favorite Atari 2600 game still has to be 'Yar's Revenge', although there's a soft spot in my heart for Plaque Attack.

I was convincingly informed that 'H.R. Puffenstuff' was named after the 'Hanoi Red' 'brand' of cannabis resin, re-interpret the song in that light and it makes a lot more sense. The cartoons are a lot funnier if you're stoned on good marijuana, too.  :P
Ah! Salad days!.

Ah, indeed...

Speaking of which, an old friend just sent me this YouTube of "The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse", which a bunch of friends and I used to wake up at 6 a.m.(or go to bed after) to watch during our salad days some decades ago.

Ralph Bakshi, who animated "Fritz the Cat", among other VERY underground cartoons, somehow got a contract to do the new adventures of Mighty Mouse. (The original Mighy Mouse was almost an unbearably straight show, often featuring opera music!) Bakshi's was so weird that most stations chose not to play it except at odd hours, probably so the parents wouldn't be watching.

As I recall, it was cancelled due to a supposed drug reference. But mostly it was just silly.

Lost 2 working Atari 2600s and a ton of games in a fire during 2003.

I hear it was "Hand Rolled."

anthrobabe

Hand Rolled is the best

I get nostalgis for those 80's movies sometimes--The Breakfast Club,Footloose, St.Elmo's Fire,Labyrinth(one of the greatest movies ever!), Pretty in Pink, The Goonies,Back to the Future, Freddie!!!!!, E.T., Fast Times at Ridgemont High,The Lost Boys, etc

hmmmmm many of these seem to involve old Mary J( implied or directly stated)-- coincidence?

Oh! I love "Labyrinth", too. Sometimes this place reminds me of that movie.  Remember the Escher-esque stairway? The pit of stench? ...and David Bowie... Bowie-liscious!!!!!

Bruder Cuzzen

Mighty Mouse , how could I have forgotten MM and his  , " Here I go to save the dayyyyy......! "

The Meromorph

Dangermouse!  (The greatest secret agent in the world!)
Dances with Motorcycles.

anthrobabe

David Bowie made one fine Goblin King! Bowie-liscious is the noun/verb of the day!

I missed Dangermouse somehow--- I'll have to look it up and see what I've been missing. I've heard of it- but have never seen it.

MB-- sorry about that 03 fire--- always devastating! Hope all else (persons/pets) came through ok.

It was my storage unit.  Had all my stuff in it.  2 weeks from moving it out the place burns.  What the fire didn't get the water did.  Pointless to put it out really.  Fortunately the pictures and some books were stacked neatly in one side of a bookcase and survived.  Only thing I really cared about.  Not so bad really.

Did anybody mention Felix the Cat?

Earworm:

Felix the cat,
the wonderful, wonderful, cat,
you'll laugh so hard,
your sides will ache,
your heart will go pitter-pat,
watching Felix,
the wonderful cat!

Now the theme songs have triggers memories of songs that give me a feeling of melancholy  nostalgia . There is one that contains these lyrics ...

...those were the days my friend
I (we?) thought they'd never end
we'd sing and dance ( forever and a day ?)
           we'd fight and never lose
           we'd .....?................
for we were young and....? by..?

Also Moon River , Andy Williams

         Piano Man , Billy Joel

If I were a Carpenter , Bobby Darren to name a few .

The Meromorph

Music & Lyrics: Gene Raskin; performed by Mary Hopkins

Once upon a time there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And dreamed of all the great things we would do

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Through the door there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days
Dances with Motorcycles.

I Always feel heartache when I hear it .

anthrobabe

this is one that does it for me

James Taylor
Fire and Rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

I've been walking my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line
To talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.

oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I'm driving and this.....
You take a mortal man,
And put him in control
Watch him become a god,
Watch peoples heads aroll
Aroll...

/chorus/
Just like the pied piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes,
Swaying to the symphony...
Of destruction

Acting like a robot,
Its metal brain corrodes.
You try to take its pulse,
Before the head explodes.
Explodes...

/chorus/

The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
Awarring for the heavens,
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall...

/chorus/

I tromp the gas and Away we go!

not sure who I love more--- Megadeth or Metallica!(same origins, very hot bass players through the years, what is this Rob Trujillo fetish I have- unexplainable- ever since he was with Ozzy(his royal higness!) I think it's the arms and the hair, reminds me of the girls dad........ mmmmmmmmmmm
