Slow response solving

I can't PM you back as the PM system has now ground to a complete halt. When I click reply nothing happens until about 5 minutes later I get the wretched page error cannot be found or displayed (sorry I forgot which) eg on http://toadfishmonastery.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;f=inbox;pmsg=577;quote;u=1 - repeated attempts give same result. ie, the problem has got worse during our PM exchange as I could reply, just very slowly !! This was with my firewall disabled so that theory is a dead duck.
Typing/copying above addi into the browser address bar displays the page ok. Trying to work out what that means....


EDIT Have kept the firewall disabled and it has speeded up everything (but no difference to the PM problems). I set the firewall to monitor everything and the only new thing that's showed up with the firewall disabled is http://opi.yahoo.com/ - and that is a blank white page with "Do you Yahoo" in black letters writ large. Can you track any reference to that?

EDIT EDIT  Switched the firewall back on and everything has stayed speeded up and PM system now working. It's still delaying but for a much much shorter time. I am completely stumped. I have double checked nothing has been downloaded that would have made the difference. But that's the only thing that would make sense so I'm left feeling fumboozled.

Well it's still faster !!  A more thorough search shows a monastery cookie was replaced while the firewall was disabled. How/why this has made a difference or even why previous ones were any different (assuming they were) shall probably remain a mystery. The cookie contains stuff that are unfathomonable but must be go-faster stripes.

Hard to tell. It has slowed down slightly now. But still faster than before. Maybe the cookies go mouldy? While I am still using this seemingly under powered network maybe keep it open..... the real test will be when I get home.
