If you haven't twigged on to the Extremely Vague Clue yet, the word is strongly associated with two left-leaning people with similar surnames.  One was assassinated and the other had multiple assassination attempts - shootings in all occurrences. The Extremely Vague Clue refers to the former.  This is a different context than flywheels and such.

Hog = Harley Davidson, they had an engine by that name.  'Revolting' was a dead giveaway, right off the bat. 

The technology mentioned was the wheel (often depicted as a stone-age invention without practical use), with allusions to the steam engine/industrial !!! LAST POST WORD BINGO WINNER !!.  The American-invented object was the revolver (Sam Colt) but that clue was much too vague to follow up on.

The Extremely Vague Clue refers to the 4th side of the Beatles' White Album, where the word occurs in two song titles (Rev 1 and Rev 9) with Honey Pie and Savoy Truffle sandwiched in between (plus Cry Baby Cry; I included a snippet of lyrics as it's not obviously sweet).

I went off down a side alley, thinking Stalin was a reference to steel and thinking it was a Stone Age steel process, then back via trying communism. For some reason I thought r evolution had been tried, but it turned out to be virtually every related word instead.

This noun/adjective is sort of related to the opposite of that. Jephro made a significant advance in its practice which upset the yokels because of its effect on employment in broadcasting.

The word's agrarian, but I admit that the word silviculture instinctively came to mind first.  I ran around the forests for years before I got edumacated in chemistry.
