More like the last straw.

Last straw man Post

In the long distant past straw was a part of the LPWB

No, it means not among the living anymore

And it has nothing to do with his name but his learned profession

Some place name beginning with "New"?

No, it's actually 'The'

He may throw a few rocks at us.

Last those are solid Post

Rock could be a material for the LPWB but it is rare (to my knowledge).

Your typical mattress (unlike your mistress) is unlikely to hit your head with lethal consequences.
I'd also be surprised, if there was a place (not shop) called The Mattrasses.
Part of the LPWB word is a typical household item that is (if the cliche holds true) often used by spouses to attack each other (or intruders) although that is not the item's purpose.

Btw, the LPWB has two syllables

Straw clue makes me think of bricks again....  the cliche suggests a rolling pin, but those are commonly made of rock and not straw, I think.

PS - how does he lead the state? Is he undead?  I though only Cheney could pull that off.
WWDDD?

Sibling Zono (anon1mat0)

Beware, he said "a leader of a German state" which to me suggests someone who may or not be the head of government of one of the 16 German states (Bundesländer) deceased after 1973, but for all purposes it may be a civic leader in which case he sent us in a wild goose chase.

Last talk about red herrings Post

Edit: the alternative is that he is talking about the president of the GDR in which case there are four alternatives:

Walter Ulbricht
Willi Stoph
Erich Honecker

Once we got past current state leaders, I more or less gave up trying to sort this one out - English-only wikipedia may not have complete enough information.

Hmm....  two syllables?  Real or fictional place-name? In either case - which country does it occur (or is most prevalent)?  Is it a basic English word, or a foreign loanword?
