The only relation with locomotives that comes to my mind implies the Spanish translation of the word being close to the word 'Caldera' and that is a veeeeery lose association.

Ah, a !!! LAST POST WORD BINGO WINNER !!.  I might confuse that with a window, if I had my father's propensity for French (he confused cheval with cheveux in one oft-told tale, and was pointed to the bathroom instead of the stable).

The crucial hint was hidden in apparent reference to a previous posting, but I remembered your 'area' of talent.

Very easy wiki-fu, once you combine 'music' and 'pause'.  I didn't previously know the word.

New word to Griffin - this is a lightning round as it's very easy (especially if you are a Hunter S. Thompson fan - I think it gets used less in Fear & Loathing in LV than in other works).  I'm not sure if it's otherwise in common usage, because I've never heard it from anyone else. Wikipedia contains one instance of a hyphenated form (I have sent in a straight compound form) within an article, but I am not even going to attempt to clue towards that one, because I've never heard of the band.

The word is equal parts meteorological and scatological, but using non-technical words.

The symbol is an arch over a dot, something like a bridge (and can work as a bridge between sections), it is a pause at the will of the conductor or performer, can be climactic and loud or anticlimactic (ie: over a rest), and one of the words for it in spanish is calderón which is close to the word 'caldera'.

As Aggie said, the critical clue was hidden as a comment on a previous post.
