Apparently the external shape is supposed to resemble stacks of the huge golden ingots popular with Chinese emperors (and probably everyone else too).

Oy....   Yah, Swato-proof is fun because most of my areas of technical expertise are in his range, and he can go to general knowledge much better than I can.

It'll have to be pop culture... the trick is keeping it globally applicable or googlable.

A noun, four syllables, and rather sinful (sic).
A multi-disciplinary word, though should be tackled in short order by the physics minds here (is used in multiple areas of physical science). 
A multi-faceted approach would be the best way for a layperson to lay hands on it.
