But the birds change their feathers once a year iirc.
I think (no time to check right now) the shorten the wings, so they don't give enough lift (or maybe they cut some tendons).

Dunno about the ravens but with pet birds is frequent to cut the long feathers on their wings (the remiges) which substantially cuts their lift capability.
