OK: E p i c y c l e = circle on a circle

Core part of the Ptolemaian geocentric model. Medieval illustration often portray Ptolemaios with a crown because he was falsely believed to belong to the Egyptian royal family of the same name. This model was later taken to be the truth in a practically dogmatic way by the church. Depictions of the model often show an angel moving the celestial spheres by turning a crank.
Eudoxus of Knidos tried to describe the movement of the planets by a similar model. The resulting curve he called the hippopede (horse foot shackle).
Kepler replaced this model with his elliptical (instead of circular) curves. Kepler saved his (very unpleasamt) mother from death by defending her successfully against charges of witchcraft. the spirograph also uses a circle (=cogwheel) rotating on/in another circle (cogring).

And my hard drive seems to have bought the farm. Don't know, whether it died of old age or there is a defect in the cables and it is actually OK. But there is data on it I couldn't yet save because the CD burner died a few months ago and couldn't be replaced because new ones don't fit the interfaces in my stone age (late last century, I think) computer.

My desktop PC died a couple of weeks ago too. Maybe they are in league.

I took the hard discs out so I can plug them into my laptop. All is not lost.

I also scavanged some other parts.

You can still find IDE burners but you have to ask specifically for them (I frankly doubt there is an older interface) If you need help send me a PM or use/create a thread in the tech section, and I'll be glad to assist you.
