If they are bad enough they become a weapon 
But it is difficult to carry and use both a Sousaphon and a rifle at the same time.
Harpists may use their instruments as multistringed bows but harp music on the battlefield is considered too unmanly.
I have heard though that some archers can use their bows to make music.

On a more serious note: In the past musicians led their units into battle (I think the Scots kept that tradition longest, at least until after WW2)
