More clues:

- smaller than Texas
- they use the Euro there, but it's not in Europe
- Aggie probably has an advantage over the rest of you at guessing this, but it's not in Canada

And a recap of the previous clues:

- it's a place
- used to be three, now it's two
- when the three things became two things, it was by two of the things combining together
- it's a real place, but it is very close to the mouth of Hell

Bonus info: the Mouth of Hell actually lies between the LPWB word and a Saint.

Aggie

Hmm...  I can think of three kingdoms that became two (and then one, and is now two), and WAY smaller than texas, but the mouth of Hell has me temporarily thrown.  One could use the Euro in some transactions, but the other one uses one.

I'll resist a guess for now as I suspect it's a place-within-the-place. Or I might be off on mental vacation.

Fun fact: speaking of places within places, did you know that the world's largest lake entirely surrounded by another lake is Lake Manitou?  It's on Manitoulin Island, which itself is on Lake Huron.

This doesn't have anything to do with the LPWB; I just find it interesting.

Last I guess "relatively interesting compared to most Canadian geography" would be more appropriate Post

EDIT - LPWB point of clarification: I just realized that one of my clues was not technically right.  The LPWB used to be two things and is now one thing, however, there is another similar thing directly associated with the other two things (which are now one thing).  The "used to be three things, but is now two" clue will point you in the right direction, but the LPWB word is technically only one of the two things.  Confused yet?   ;D

EDIT 2: It may help you know that the three things became two things through a physical process, not a political one.

Aggie

Ah, that clears my previous lead (did anyone catch the pun?), and makes more sense of my previous-to-previous hunch re: process, and the clue that didn't make sense on my previous lead.  Now I just have to reconfigure my reasons for having an advantage here.  ;D

I don't suppose you could give us a timeline for the joining, oh, say to the nearest millenium?

Umm, I'm not sure if I did.

QuoteI don't suppose you could give us a timeline for the joining, oh, say to the nearest millenium?

Oh, sure: between 1000 and 2000 AD.

More clues:

- it was attacked by the British during the American Revolution, but is not, and has never been, part of the United States
- it was controlled by the Axis forces for part (but not all) of World War II

I suspect we're looking for an oceanic version of Ometepe, which fits more with a non-clue.

Q might be on the right track for the wrong reasons, but it depends who bestowed the name upon the "mouth of hell" in questions.  There are several...

Uses the Euro and is located by a Saint?  Maybe somewhere in the Caribbean?  Martinique?  Guadalupe?

More clues!

- it IS a place - an actual place.  You can find it in any world atlas, and people still live there.
- it's not between Canada and Greenland
- the LPWB word is also a common first name for a person, but in an uncommon European language
- if you swim straight north from the LPWB word, when you hit land they may make you kiss a fish

I found a place called Hell's Mouth.

It's in Portugal, which is in South America.

It's a bay or port-of-call.  I even got a picture

But, contenental-drift is millions of years old, so I don't think it's the right one.  Is it?   rats ...
