Climate change means long term trouble very probably including a lot of nasty wars about water etc.
To work against that can be interpreted as being for peace.
The criteria have become a bit loose. But if preventing war or brokering peace were the sole criteria, the list would lose many prominent members (Schweitzer, Nansen etc.).
"Nobel Price for the General Betterment of Mankind" simply lacks the ring.

You got me there. My first reaction was "didn't he already get it?" (though maybe not peace but literature)
Checked it, nope.
But wikipedia gives the disturbing information that he belongs to the Committee for the Present Danger. That would be a perfect disqualifier for the time being.

But he did a lot on the peace field...

He's not perfect, I can agree on that, he has made some mistakes during his presidentship in the Czech Republic (and afterwards)... But I respect this man a lot...

I think he has even been a candidate for the Peace Price several times...

I do not want to denigrate Havel or his merits for European peace. But I consider it unlikely that the Nobel commitee would indirectly endorse a neo-con (and decidedly not peaceful) outfit for the time being. 15 years ago there would have been no problem (and Havel a good choice).
