Btw, the picture from the riots in Rostock (the G8 summit is nearby) in today's papers looks like a 30-years-war painting. The demonstrators (in red and yellow) have lowered their banner poles making them look like pikemen while the police (in black) is charging.

One thing is quite funny. Large formations of pikemen were at the time known as a Gewalthaufen, which simply meant armed cohort then. Today the correct literal translation would be violent mob
