I think to drive out the CO₂without heating  one would have to lower the pH or to precipitate it by adding hydroxides of second main group metals (Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba).

The metal form of the second will go boom too under the right circumstances. The hydroxides are the result of the boom. If you put the metals into pure alcohol, you will get the alcoxides that can also be pretty nasty.
