I am seriously considering writing an ecloge (pastoral poem) on Lovecraftian themes - in Latin.

General plot: Asenath (The thing at the doorstep) works as a Deep One fish herder (piscultrix/piscolicus/pisculcus?) and sings a song about Cthulhu. The grandmother of the protagonist of Shadow over Innsmouth arrives accompanied by Marceline (Medusa's Coil) and calls on her to drive a herd of fish towards Devil's Reef on behalf of Old Man Marsh. Because Asenath is still new to the business, granny sings a didactic song on fish herding (featuring sea grass meadows and kelp forests with their inhabitants).

Shoggoths can be described with the epitheton aptenodytivorantes (penguin eating)

Still no solution found for the "that is not dead..." couplet though. The second verse will likely end with "mors moriatur et ipsa"

I don't understand a word of that. My language skills, such as they were, are pretty low down in the battle for brain cells that faking cognition requires these days. May improve after 12th.

Classic balances (scales) have become a bit of a rarity though.

Back in the days I had babies, we had to weigh them on ancient balance scales. I quite enjoyed putting on and removing smaller and smaller weights until it levelled. But it does seem amazing to think it was just routine, just what one did. As I enter old age the world does begin to feel quite hostile, but I do try to keep up (ha! I have a smartphone, and even use Whatsapp.). I'm not sure what one does with an Oyster card but I am unable to use public transport anyway (but even in the 60's in Paris I bought my billet in a Newsagents).

I have learnt how to use my digital scales. As I step on, they flash up intermittently either one LB below my actual weight, or one LB above my actual weight, before settling on my actual weight. Thus I know where I am heading within a few ounces. I suspect the actual number of ounces could be displayed but would spoil the design. Measuring ounces must be possible! I have lost over a stone on a low carb/high protein diet which is dead easy to keep to. I lose around a lb a week. It's slow but steady, missing the odd week here and there. My target is losing 3 stone so well on my way after six months. I am doing it for health reasons. I was quite happy with my weight and my wardrobe, but the medics thought otherwise. My waist has gone down 2 inches which is a lot and a problem with trousers/skirts staying up, or rather not staying up.
