Well, for Roman Catholics the conscience IS external (or was up to Vaticanum II).

Blair was a bit confused though, since while he claimed it for war, he was not (yet) actually a Catholic and the official Catholic conscience said 'no' anyway.

I'm afraid I generally agree with Hitchens and Russia on the Syria issue, it is transparent that what kept the country together was the murderous dictator and once removed chaos ensues as the clear cases in both Iraq and Libya.

I don't know about Russia as I haven't worked out what their real motives are and suspect nobody knows anyway. But I agree with Hitchens on the point in question. (I am always surprised when I agree with him as sometimes he it so totally horrible).

Cameron had me screaming at the TV again today by refering to "Corbyn and his terrorist-loving friends". Corbyn has made entirely sensible suggestions on how to move forwards on ?destroying? Isil with not a whiff of friending, just not bombiing. How does not agreeing with bombing make him a terrorist-lover? The trouble is so many here will believe wha Cameron says and he knows it. I would prosecute him for slander if I were Corbyn. Why don't parliamentarians ever do this?
They will vote tomorrow and we will then be in yet another stupid war.

The Russians have been consistent both with Libya and Syria although Russia had/has (military) interests in both countries. As for bombing ISIS, I do believe that they should be contained, followed by blue helmets keep the peace (like Bosnia), but a forceful, decided, and uninterested approach to the subject is impossible to reach in the current circumstances (and the current world).
