Is there any significance that the vast majority of horror movie characters come from the end of the alphabet*?

Vampires, werewolves, witches, zombie, the undead in general plus vengeful spirits.
Even the slasher is not below letter 19 and most often it goes up to twenty since he (rarely a she) adopts 'teenie' as attribute.
Ghost (horror) movies were quite a rarity for decades until the Japanese began to reintroduce them to the West.
