Ja, sprach sie, mit gelben Ranken!
Ich weiß, sie ärgert sich nicht schlecht
Und muß sich auch noch bedanken.

(The first old aunt spoke: We have to talk think about what present we will give to good little Sophie on her saint's day.
Next spoke the second old aunt boldly: I propose that we decide on a dress in pea green. Little Sophie can't stand it.
The third old aunt was alright with that. Oh yes, tendriled in yellow! I know, she will be REALLY upset and still has to say thanks for it)

Do old aunts need a reason? 

That kind of mindset is rather common, unfortunately. I'd say it occurs particularly often in 'pious' circles with older female relatives most often the culprits.

Most people I know think they won't reach their statistical death date, some with good cause. Although I suppose the statistical figure changes. Like I was a healthy woman but now my statistics have changed to someone who had cancer and has ME with lots of time in bed which hugely shortens the odds (which is a good thing for annuities).

Akkadian is also read but rarely written in these days (let alone spoken). That's why it is called a dead language.
