Film decays easily. I've been behind the scenes at a film storage museum. Fascinating.

OTOH nobody really knows how long the data in an optical device really lasts (like CDs, DVDs, BRs).

Last apparently the writable variety has a shorter lifespan but it isn't clear how much Post

Last I have glass-mastered, mass-production CDs from 1990 - 1992 that are decomposed beyond use already post.

But even the read-only must have been written to once.

Unfortunately the longest lasting material is also the most flammable

Knurrhähne sind eßbar aber empfehlen würde ich das nicht unbedingt.
The aspitriglos is edible though I do not actually recommend it.

Griffin NoName

That's one reason why storage is so complex.

Films and photos tend to use different materials.

Silver plates, glass plates or already (semi)synthetic polymer strips?

Out of curiosity I got out one of the first CDs I purchased in the late 80s or early 90s (a version of R. Strauss' Don Juan recorded in 1979, and going by the disc you would think it was pressed that year, which I doubt) and it still plays without issues.

Last I wouldn't know what the degradation rate would be or how to spot it at this point Post

I think CDs vary enormously in this respect.

Last well, if it won't play on a CD player, it won't rip onto a computer, and you can see right through bits of it, I reckon I've spotted it post.

Swatopluk

I find great differences between CD players too. I have to keep in mind sometimes which CD to put into which player.
