I think to a degree it was spitting the Vienna establishment in the eye. Empress Elisabeth did it before by favoring Hungary (and learning the language). Bosnia was a (relatively new) part of the Empire and since the archduke would expect to rule it one day he wanted to go there too before that. Being rather stubborn any warnings would have even encouraged him. From his POV it must have been an ideal opportunity to both anger the snobs at home and to show that he (unlike them) respected all citizens of the empire by paing them a personal visit. Pure speculation on my part but he may have been aware of the behaviour of the Serbian crown prince in the territories Serbia annexed in the Balkan wars. That guy stopped people in the street and furiously shouted at them when he did not like their answers to his questions (esp. on their 'joy' of now being part of Serbia or on their ethnicity).

Yes, but I don't know how many weeks/months. I am screaming at the Lords discussing Assisted Dying on TV (live) - they are saying the most idiotic things - I want to hit the TV.  They are making all sorts of dire predictions as if they will really happen when there's no evidence of any of them happening in the countries and US states that have already got Assisted Dying.

One of them actually said we have no control over our own birth.............. I had to switch it off in the end or I would have burst a blood vessel. Their reasoning is just too silly. The House should be abolished never mind terminally ill people.
