Admittedly most of the time it was not hot air but fire, brimstone and bile what came emanated form the RCC head (the current one being a bit of an anomaly).

I always have mixed feelings about the Jesuits. They did a lot of good* and there were quite a few great people in it. On the other hand it is no surprise that they were a model for the SS (they even used Jesuit teaching materials).

*to name just one thing: their fight against the mistreatment of the native population in South America by the European overlords. Iirc that was one of the main reason why the order got dissolved for some time (under a different pretense of course).

At lest they're not coy about it. A good friend of mine went to a Franciscan highschool and he loathed how they talk about poverty with a very full bank account.
