There were cultures where the individual would take on a new (extra) name after every important deed. The longer the name, the greater the glory of the carrier. At least in a story by Lem (no idea whether it has a real world counterpart) it goes the opposite way. Each child receives an extremly long string of names and drops one each time it achieves something recognized by the community as important. So, the shorter the name, the greater the glory. In the story the protagonist is in search of a legendary man from that people who managed to do so many great deeds that he exhausted all his original names and is only know as Master 'Oh', where 'Oh' is not a name but just a sign of breathing out. Spoiler: he does not find him and does not in the end desire to actually meet him.

I find very ironic how Classic Xtians^TM make fun of Mormons about how outrageously unbelievable is the supposed proof provided by J. Smith re. the tablets and the angel, yet they have absolutely no issue with the "Angel Gabriel" story.

I still am somewhat bemused by the fact that the angel Moroni revealed said tablets to Mr. Smith, but that his followers are called Mormons.

Well, but what about in 2000 years? Given how common the name is people will face the same dilemma as we with rabbi Jesus. We know of at least six rabbis of that name active at the time of Christ but not if 'our' Jesus was one of them. I would bet there were other religiously active Joseph Smithes at the time of Mr. 'The lord told me to have more wives'.
