I occasionally call my 'tiels "dinosaurs" and my wife retorts that they are too small to be dinosaurs. The fact that most fossils are from large bones doesn't mean that there weren't smaller dinos, only that big bones had a better chance to survive the test of time than smaller ones.

If we came from dinos we would likely be related to troodontids (which BTW are from on the same clade as birds) and those were the size of a dog.
