I doubt that we will see anything really big in our lifetime on that. If there is a manned trip to Mars, it will very likely use old-fashioned chemical rocket drives. I assume that manned trips beyond that will not happen within the next 50 years. For the time being ion drives will be limited to unmanned probes and confined to the solar system. I have no opinion on the likelihood of one of the microprobes being sent to neighbouring stars within said period. What I consider likely is a space-based large interferometric telescope to be used in search of exoplanets. This could give enough details to make an interstallar probe more than just a random shot. Preliminary steps have already been taken to build a similar network for the purpose of detecting and studying gravitational waves.

The main problem is not to get anyone to Mars but have him/her arrive in an acceptable state and to return him/her to Earth alive (should die of terminal radiation induced cancer only after the initial press conference).

Looks like I have become a victim of pocket theft.
Fortunately I keep the debit card separately.
But It will be a real bureaucratic pain to replace the identity and health insurance card.
Material loss low: 10€ plus the get into museums free card (I think I have not been often enough in the museums with this year's one to amortize it).
