I tried the same thing, but decided it was more odd than comprehensible.

I allowed for it being weird as it was opera. For operetta even more weirdness would have been tolerated.

You get the gist though. Rimsky-Korsakov saying nice things about the tsar (usually a good move, even with mythical ones).
