I just checked. The heaviest man alive (recently deceased it seems) weighed 570 kg. Through a diet he lost 230 kg of that (possible connection to death?).
I doubt that this is usually just a matter of voracity in these extreme cases but some severe metabolical dysfunction.
On the other hand there is a woman in the US whose intention is to break the record for females and makes a living out of it. Iirc the morbid interest in her brings enough money in to both finance the extreme needs (foodwise) and leaves enough to pay for the tuition of her children. But she is also aware that it will kill her sooner rather than later (hopefully the kids are through college by then).
